4. BETTER OPPORTUNITIES FOR SINGLE SOLDIERS (BOSS) MICHELLE RODEN, 315 772-7807
• COOKING CLASSES WITH BOSS: Will be held on 7, 14, 21 July at the BOSS Nash Blvd Center. BOSS and SPC Hohensee will show you
how to create delicious dishes. Learn the fundamental skills for a lifetime of great cooking. Work side-by-side with other students to

• 5K FUN RUN AND WALK: The race will start at Magrath Sports Complex upper parking lot. Open to active duty military
assigned/attached to Fort Drum, Family members, retirees, reservists, and DoD civilians employed on Fort Drum. Register at race site
starting at 8:30 am the day of the event until the beginning of the race at 9 am. Come dressed in your Red, White and Blue. Click here

• MOVIE ON THE BEACH: BOSS invites you to enjoy an old fashioned community outing at The Remington Park beach for an Outdoor
Movie. BOSS would like to host a movie night on the beach in July. We are looking at BOSS staff will also provide a campfire with
s’mores fixings at 8 pm. A comedy movie will be shown at 9 pm on the outdoor movie screen. Please feel free to bring blankets and
comfort items to sit on. Free event to all 18 and older DoD ID Card holders.

5. CIVIL AIR PATROL (CAP) CPT ROBERT ORMSBEE, 315-772-4984
• INTERESTED IN BECOMING A MEMBER OF THE CAP? The Fort Drum Watertown Composite Squadron conducts junior ROTC type
training for cadets and Search and Rescue training for adult members. Membership for cadets is open to youth ages 12-18 and Adult
membership is open to adults age 18-and up. Upcoming meetings are 12, 19 and 26 July from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm in building M431A.
• SEARCH AND RESCUE: NY WING level search and rescue exercises are conducted every two months with Group and Squadron
exercises conducted every month.

• NEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: moving into Fort Drum should check in with the School Liaison Office as soon as possible to see if
they should arrange to take any NYS required testing that is held in August.

• POP WARNER FOOTBALL AND CHEER: registration runs through 31 July. Parents can only sign up their children at the Youth
Sports Center (Building #P10790). Registration is open for ages 5-12 and the fee per child is $65.00 for Football and $45 for Cheer.
Practices will be held Monday through Friday, beginning on Thursday, 1 August. Volunteer Coaches applications are due back to the
Sports office by 1 July. If we do not receive enough coaches, we will have to delay the season until further notice. For more

• SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS: Archery, Golf, Soccer, Football - Speed and Agility Training and Basketball. Please call 772-6718 for

• START SMART BASEBALL: registration will begin 19 July. The parent tot class is open for ages 3-5. The fee for this program is

• MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPS: for members in grades 6-8 – Full Day Camps: Fees/Cost will range from $28 – 68 per week (based on
total Family Income). Camp fee must be paid in full by the registration cut-off date which is listed for each week. A minimum of 8
campers are required.

• COMMISSARY FARMER’S MARKET: The Commissary will be holding a FARMER'S MARKET on 2&3 July 2013. There will be some
great savings for your produce items during the sale. We are planning to have the sale set up outside weather permitting. The

• TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT: There will be several additional speed enforcement operations in and around the Installation housing
areas.
• 774-TIPS (8477): Each soldier, Family member, Civilian, and Contractor is a set of eyes and ears for the Law Enforcement
Community. Remain vigilant in your daily activities, both at home and at work.
• OUTDOOR COOKING ACTIVITIES: Routinely inspect your propane grill for leaks!

• GRADUATED ADDITIONAL ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE OBLIGATION (ADSO) ASSOCIATED WITH TRANSFER OF CH 33, POST 9/11 GI BILL
BENEFITS CHANGING: After 1 August, all Service members will be held to a four year ADSO regardless of their qualifying years as of
1 August 2009. Requests for transfer of benefits are made through MILCONNECT at
https://ww.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/faces/index.jspx and the ADSO starts on the date the request is approved, not 1 August 2009.
• FORT DRUM EDUCATION FAIR: is schedule for Tuesday, 6 August from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Army Education Center, 4300 Camp
Hale Road. Over 30 college representatives will be on hand to discuss associate, bachelor and master degree plans with Soldiers,

• HOMES AVAILABLE:
 Brand new four bedroom homes for Junior NCO (SGT-SSG) with short wait times. All Soldiers and Families that do not
currently live with MCH, or current residents that have had a change in rank or have gained a family member are

 JENL (PVT-SPC) two, three and four bedroom homes and JNCO (SGT) two bedroom homes are available to newly arriving

• SPLASH INTO SUMMER: We invite Residents to come out for our wet & wild event that’s fun for all ages! Saturday, July 13 from
12:30-2 pm stop by the Rhicard Hills Community Center for water balloons, splash park fun and maybe a slip-n-slide or two. Don’t
forget your towels!
• SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM: Running through August 23, Mountain Community Homes hosts the Summer Feeding Program
throughout each week. Children 18 years old and under are invited to get FREE lunch through the summer at one of our community
centers on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 am-12:30 pm.

• OFF-POST HOUSING RESOURCES: The off-post rental housing market has multiple vacancies available with lessening demand from
ongoing deployments as well as more inventory from new construction; as of 20 May 2013 there are over 7 % vacancies in rentals
being reported from the area’s largest apartment complexes. Go to the Fort Drum Housing website for more information and links
to resources. There are some 1,000 new market rental housing units in various stages of construction being delivered now with a
larger number ready to occupy starting this June and continuing through 2014.
• COMMUNITY HOUSING OFFICE CAN HELP: The Army Community Housing Office at Clark Hall (Rm A2-54) is always available to

• MEDDAC CLINIC FURLOUGH DRESS REHEARSAL: will be conducted in the month of June with the exact date to be announced. All
MEDDAC clinics will be operating at 50% reduced staffing with the exception of Connor Troop Medical Clinic. Please be prepared for
possible longer than usual wait time. When the actual furlough happens, our reduced hours and/or staffing will be every Monday
and Friday. Please keep checking our FaceBook page for status and updates.
• FURLOUGH SCHEDULE ON MEDDAC FACEBOOK PAGE: Modified furlough clinic hours schedule have been posted on MEDDAC’s
FaceBook page. The implementation for the modified schedule is set to begin the week of 7 July. Please keep checking our FaceBook

• ARMY PROVIDER LEVEL SATISFACTION SURVEY: Army Provider Level Satisfaction Survey aka APLSS (pronounced APPLES)
provides you with the ability to use your voice to help your MEDDAC meet or exceed your health care needs. Each survey returned
could bring $500 back to the facility to help us improve your service. Surveys are received in the mail to randomly chosen patients
within 3-5 days after their doctor’s visit. Please remember to keep your demographic information updated with us so that your
voice can be heard.

• WHITE WATER RAFTING TRIPS: will be on 12, 19, 23 July. There will be two trips per day on the Black River, with 38 seats on each

• FINGER LAKES WINE FESTIVAL: will take place on 12-14 July. The cost of this trip will be $100 per Person in a double room and

• NIAGARA FALLS TRIP will take place on 27 July. This trip will be $45 per Person in a Double Room. The trip price includes

• SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER: Watch out for little ones who we haven't seen playing on or near streets during the duty day since
last August.
• BICYCLE SAFETY: All persons riding bikes on Fort Drum must wear a protective helmet. In New York State, you can be fined if
children under the age of 14 are caught not wearing bike helmets. For more bike safety tips, visit the NYS Department of Health site

• CHILD PROOFING HOMES: The Department of Defense and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have teamed up to provide
tips on how to child proof your home against the most common hazards; particularly, strangulations due to improper window
