Population Distribution
 Lesson objectives:

   To understand how population
   distribution is calculated

Population Distribution in India
Task 1 - You are going
to create a choropleth map to
 show the population
 distribution of India

 Choose 4 colours, very
carefully and fill in your key!!

Using the table you need to
 workout which colour to
shade each state. The last 5
you will need to calculate the
 population density first!
Population Distribution in India
Task 2 - You are going to create a
GIS to show the physical features of
  India over the chloropleth map

Trace the outline of India from YOUR
map then using an atlas (p16 green) draw
  on the tracing:
      • Thar Desert
      • Capital City – New Deli
      • Ganges River
      • Deccan Plateau
      • Himalayan Mountains
TIP: Using Sellotape, tape your tracing
paper, at the top only, over your
  chloropleth map

Task 3 - Annotate your map to
 explain how these features affect
 population density
Population Distribution
 Do You :

understand why some areas are densely
   populated whilst others are sparsely
   populated
Homework

Write a post card to a friend of
yours in India. Tell them everything
  you know about the population
  distribution in their country.

  1. Starter – look at photo graphs – in pairs decide which areas are sparsely populated and which are densely populated.
