2. The Little Princess – I want a Friend
• The characters are made to look like realistic kids to relate
to the characters about starting school. This book has used
pen and water colours to create the images, all of the
pictures are drawn by hand to create more of a simple
picture and make it more appealing to children. In the book
the text is done to look like a child’s writing, it uses a sans
serif font so its easy for children to read it. Its very
simplistic language and with the font being childlike, this
compliments each other. This book has 23 pages, this is a
little longer than a lot of children’s books at the moment.
The author for these series of books is Tony Ross, he writes
the books and he is also the illustrates the books. The size
of the book is 22 x 0.4 x 26.3 cm.

4. Dr Dog
• In this book all the images are drawn, they are drawn with water
colours and colouring pencils. The people are meant to look quite
off putting to make them be all gross and make them look as
though they will always do things wrong. The colours in the book
are quite dull but they use brighter colours for the important parts
to make the children reading it focus more on them parts of the
book. This book is for a little older children so theres a little more
text, however the images still take up most of the page. The font is
childlike and simple to go with the child like by making the dog have
human characteristics (anthropomorphism). The author of this
book is Babette Cole, she is also an animal lover this is why she
picked a dog to be the main character in this book. This size of the
book is 24.7 x 0.3 x 25.2 cm.

6. Hairy Maclary
• The images in this book are all drawn, they were
drawn with coloured pens. This book is done in a
way to look more realistic to appeal to children,
they have done this by adding a lot of detail to
the dogs fur. In this book one page has the
picture on and the page next to that has a small
amount of text on it. This is done so children can
easily read the book. The language is simple, this
is so that children can read it. What also help
with that is that the text is simple.
