HOW TO REACH
COMMUNITY
BROADCASTERS
2017
About the CBAA
AS THE NATIONAL SECTOR LEADER, THE COMMUNITY BROADCASTING ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA (CBAA) CHAMPIONS COMMUNITY
RADIO BY BUILDING STATION CAPABILITY AND CREATING A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT FOR THE SECTOR TO THRIVE.
The CBAA has a membership
representing over 85% of
licensed community radio
stations including stations from
all sub-sectors, communities of
interest and licence types.
Our work falls into these two
key areas:
• Growing the capability
and sustainability of
stations.
From webinars,
conferences and events
through to initiatives
like the Australian Music
Radio Airplay Project
(Amrap), the Community
Radio Network and the
Digital Radio Project and
resources like our resource
library, the CBAA works
with radio stations to
ensure they are capable
and sustainable. The CBAA
is the go-to source for
information, knowledge
and advice on how to run a
radio station.
• Building a healthy
community broadcasting
environment.
The CBAA leads the
sector in building a
healthy environment
in which community
broadcasting can thrive.
We do this by raising
awareness of community
broadcasting and by
proactively working with
influential stakeholders
to strengthen their
knowledge, understanding
and support. We undertake
significant research on the
sector to ensure effective
leadership.

Community broadcasting is Australia’s largest independent media sector,
recognised internationally as one of the most successful examples of grassroots
media.
Over 5 million people tune in to 450+ not-for-profit, community-owned
and operated radio services operating across the country each week.
Stations play an important role in providing a voice for communities that aren’t
adequately serviced by other broadcasting sectors, and provide programming
that caters to the needs and interest groups of their communities.
By aligning with the CBAA, your organisation will
have the opportunity to build and reinforce its brand
with Australia’s largest independent media sector and
internationally renowned community radio movement.
We welcome opportunities to work closely with
organisations that reflect the ideals of community
broadcasting and share our vision that community radio
contributes to, and is a reflection of, an Australia that is an
open society, a strong democracy and a vibrant culture.

Over 5 million people tune in to 450+ not-for-profit, community-owned and operated radio services operating across the country each week. Stations play an important role in providing a voice for communities that aren’t adequately serviced by other broadcasting sectors, and provide programming that caters to the needs and interest groups of their communities.
