3. So what is a Podcast?
A podcast is quot;a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar
programme, made available on the Internet for downloading to a
personal audio player.quot;
It is also now generally accepted that podcasts can be in video form

5. How to create a sound file using Audacity

6. You will need:
A computer
Audacity and a LAME encoder on your computer – free
software available from www.audacity.sourceforge.net
A set of headphones with a microphone

7. Here’s what you need to do…
1. Plug your headphones into the FRONT of your computer, making sure
that you match the colours correctly.
2. Check that the sound levels are set correctly and that you have the
“microphone” set properly
3. Open the Audacity program from the start menu
4. To record your voice click the RED record button. You know it’s
recording because you see the blue sound waves on the screen

8. I’ve got my sound file what do I do next?
Getting your podcast onto the internet…
We are now going to turn our sound file into a podcast!

Podcasting platform
Podomatic makes adding your podcast to iTunes
(and other “podcatchers”) very easy, so that
pupils can subscribe to it

9. Save your work
Go to FILE, as usual and then click “Export project as
mp3”, give your sound file a name and save it in “My
Documents”
Voilà you have your sound file :o)

10. Now to add your sound file to PodOmatic
1. Go to www.podomatic.com
2. Sign in. Username: iramsey
Password: teach12
3. Click the “my podcast” tab and then choose “post an
episode”
4. Give your episode a title and then click “upload” and
“browse” to find your sound file that you saved.
5. Click on “Post episode” and wait to be told that it’s
done
6. Go to http://iramsey.podomatic.com to hear
yourself online.
You can even listen to one another’s podcasts and leave a
comment after listening
