4. Anyone who had a heart.. I knew I wanted to help but of course, as a student I was focused on studying for midterms. During break I decided that it was a perfect time to get involved.. How?
5. Ok, so I’ll tell my parents to donate In addition to donating much needed money.. I created a non-profit organization called Hearts 4Haiti. Hearts 4 Haiti allows YOU to become involved in other ways than just donating money. YOU can become involved through collecting items for care packages, putting them together and uniting the community during the process
6. Unimaginable Devastation Here are some statistics: Over 200, 000 people have died. Over 300, 000 are injured. There is no running water, no hospitals, minimal food. There are too many bodies.. They are buried in mass graves Before the earthquake there were around 380, 000 orphans. This number is expected to increase by hundreds of thousands.
7. Why us? Why not them? Jews are already helping through UJA , IsraAID, JDC, and others but what is Maayanot doing? Other schools such as Ramaz, Kushner and Frisch are all contributing to the relief of Haiti. HEARTS 4 HAITI is the way that Maayanot can contribute.
8. Oh. We know what it is like more than any other nation to go through a tragedy, and trust me, this is a tragedy. Therefore, shouldn’t we step up and make a Kiddush Hashem by helping a nation who so desperately needs it?
9. OK, How? There are many great organizations that are saving lives every second every day in Haiti. There are ways to donate to them by simply texting “HAITI” to 90999, or donating online to mainstream organizations.
10. Buuttt I really need my money for lunch!!! Money is always hard to part with no matter what the circumstances, I know. Therefore Hearts-4-Haiti focuses on being actively involved. Every week packages of food, water, clothing,necessities and monetary donations will be sent to the people of Haiti.
11. What Can YOU Do? The Global Awareness Committee will be collecting : Cans of food Power bars (luna, cliff, anything high in calorie) Packaged food All clothes (used and new) Men, women and children Toiletries- toothbrushes, toothpaste, ace bandages, Stuffed animals and books
