 Developed by Howard
    Gardner in 1984.
 Concluded that
    people use eight
    different kinds of
    intelligence.
 Different intelligences
    are more dominant in
    some people than
    others.
1. Linguistic-verbal- Enjoys reading and writing. Ease
   with language problems.
2. Logical-mathematical- Enjoys inductive and
deductive reasoning. Ease with numbers, inferring,
   and making generalizations.
3. Spatial-visual- Enjoys drawing and designing. Ease
   with visualizing objects and dimensions.
4. Body-kinesthetic- Ability to use the body to express
   feelings and ideas.
5. Musical- Enjoys learning through rhythm and melody.
Ease with recognizing patterns and sounds.
6. Interpersonal- Ability to communicate with others
   effectively. Understands other’s behavior.
7. Intrapersonal- Aware of one’s goals, emotions, and
     knowledge.
8. Naturalist- Aware of the natural world around them.
     Ability to identify with nature.

o Verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences are
the most frequently addressed in classrooms.
o Teachers can use technology to accommodate visual-spatial,
    musical-rhythmic, verbal-linguistic, and interpersonal.
(videos/movies, playing music, power points, allowing students
to record interviews with people, students working together to
create videos demonstrating knowledge of a subject)
o Teachers can accommodate verbal-linguistic, logical-
    mathematical, bodily-kinesthetic, visual-spatial, interpersonal,
and intrapersonal learning styles without technology.
(lecture, Socratic tutorials, self-reflection journals, hands on
     materials, group work, presentations)
o Students must understand what their most dominant
  type of intelligence is.
o Once a student understands their type of intelligence,
they can alter their study habits to better suit them.
o Verbal-linguistic might benefit from reading their notes
  aloud.
o Logical-mathematic might benefit from making a
chart of their notes and studying it.
o Bodily-kinesthetic might benefit from putting what
  they learned into use.
o Visual-spatial learners might benefit from using
symbols and keys in their notes.
o Musical-rhythmic students might benefit from creating
mnemonic devices and signing them back.
o Interpersonal learners might benefit from teaching
what they learned to another student.
o Intrapersonal learners can relate the material to
    themselves to make it personal.
o Naturalists might benefit from thinking about how the
    material can help the environment.
o It’s important to understand the different intelligences.
o Students will get more out of the course if different
    intelligences are taught to.
o It’s important to adjust lessons to fit the different
    learning styles of the class.
