3. What type of disaster was it?
Bushfires are frequent events during the hotter months of the year
because of Australia’s mostly hot or dry climate.
Every year, these fires impact extensive areas.
On one hand, they can cause property damage and loss of human and
animal life. However, certain native flora Australia require/rely on
bushfires as of means of reproduction.
A series of bushfires that spread across the state of NSW.
The bushfire primarily started on 13 October 2013, and then continued
onto being the beginning of the worst fires, starting in the Blue Mountains
on 16 and 17 October 2013. This fire burned for 11 days, ended on 28
October
Global warming is increasing the frequency and severity of bushfires
The 2013 NSW bushfire was one of the worst since 1960’s,
Burned- 118,000 hectares (290,000 acres) of land, 248 buildings
destroyed, 2 deaths and 2 injuries (non fatal).
Strong winds causing power line damage to military operations and the
use of explosive devices to the suspected arson.
