The importance of PDHPE in our classrooms.

2.  In recent times, it has become a well known fact that
childhood obesity has increased at alarming rates,
doubling in children and quadrupling in adolescence
in the past 30 years.
 This leads to many health risks, such as high blood
pressure, joint pains and diabetes.
 Obesity in childhood often leads to obesity in
adulthood, which leads to even deadlier health issues.

3.  Children should be getting at least one hour of
physical activity each day. Of course this doesn’t have
to be all at the one time, but P.E is a great place to get
children up and active, while having fun at the same
time.
 P.E also helps children develop key learning outcomes
as described in the syllabus, such as their ability to
perform certain physical movements and learn
different ways of playing games and sports.

improved mental well-being and a lower

 It has been theorised by many researchers that
physical exercise causes the brain to release chemicals
called endorphins into the body; the same chemicals
that cause happiness.
 Physical activity isn't only great for the body, but also
great for the mind.

5.  PDHPE encourages growth in all aspects of health, and
this includes mental and spiritual health as well as
physical health.
 As stated in the syllabus, PDHPE aims to bring about
an awareness of the self and others, promote physical
activity and help children to be aware of and
understand personal health choice that impact them

6.  PDHPE is usually an overlooked subject in the
curriculum, as it is not seen to have the same
importance as subjects such as maths or English.
 PDHPE is important for all aspects of a child’s healthy
and safe lifestyle, and PDHPE provides the skills for
children to create positive changes and make positive
decisions.
 PDHPE is a subject that should be encouraged and
seen as necessary and important; it is helping to set
your children up for a wonderful healthy life.
