2. Editing, Sound & Lighting
● The opening of the conjuring is opened with a fade this goes on through
different scenes the sequence. Fading describe a transition to and from a blank
image. This media technique helped build up suspense as the audience do not
know what is yet to come.At the end of the sequence there was a fade out ,
this happened twice this already represents the genre on the film which is
horror.
● The sound the is used is non diegetic, there are screams but this is kind of
typical for a horror film.
The sound foreshadows the genre of the films so it can intrigue the audience.
● The images also use the editing skill of fade out and fade in which is where
the lightning is darkened then lightened.
● The opening title sequence is in black and white. This conveys contrast as in
the sequence it mentions heaven and hell and the colors contrast each other.
This gives the impression of mysterious things happening and black represents
darkness and death however the white can represent pure innocence
3. Mise en scene & Setting
The distance is an medium shot. There is movement of tilting up
and down and forwards and backwards but no use of tracking and
panning. The camera follows the action as there is not much action
just a still image and in some cases movement.
The people that are shown in the sequence are dressed in an old
fashioned style and the gender and age range is mixed. The way
they look suggest that the town has stayed the same for a long time
and what has been happening has gone on for a while. You also get
this idea from the way things are singularly positioned throughout
the sequence. It can give of a sense of secretiveness and make the
audience feel weary about what’s happening around them. The
music in the sequence is a deep tone. It includes wind chimes, birds,
trees rustling and wind chimes. These are associated with the night
time as they are noises you expect to hear when the temperature
has dropped and it has started to get windy. As it refers to real life
sounds it gives a tense feel.
