Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys are an English indie rock band formed in 2002 in High Green, Sheffield. The band
consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, lead/rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (rhythm/lead guitar), Nick
O'Malley (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals). The band began
rehearsing at Yellow Arch Studios in Neepsend, and played its first gig on 13 June 2003 at The
Grapes in Sheffield city-centre. After a few performances in 2003, the band began to record demos
at 2fly studios in Sheffield. 17 songs were demoed in all and the collection, now known as Beneath
the Boardwalk, was burned on to CDs to give away at gigs, which were promptly file-shared
amongst fans.
The band have released five studio albums: Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
(2006), Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009), Suck It and See (2011) and AM (2013),
as well as one live album At the Apollo (2008).
The band's debut album became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history,
surpassing Elastica's self-titled album and remains the fastest-selling debut album by a group in
the UK. The band have won five Brit Awards—winning Best British Group twice, and have twice
been nominated for Grammy Awards. The band also won the Mercury Prize for its debut album, in
addition to receiving two nominations in 2007 and 2013.

Since 2011, Arctic Monkeys have taken on a new image that looks more mature and stylish compared
to 2006 when the looked more like teenage school boys.
The bands new look consists of a retro Americana 1950’s/60’s style which is clearly shown in their
recent photographs.
The band have chosen this style to elaborate their choice in musical direction, being slow 60’s songs
that mainly talk about being in love.

The Telegraph article
Arctic Monkeys: 'We’ve raised the bar as a live band’
Stating their success
and identifying to
the audience they
are using a new
sound.

Four number-one albums and two Glastonbury headline sets into their career, Arctic
Monkeys are back with a striking new sound – but do they have new rock-star
attitudes to go with it? Alex Turner et al talk about close friendships, regrets and
how to put on a show.
Telling the audience they will be talking about personal things
which may appeal to the fans. This will get more readers to
want to look at this article.

Ten years ago in June Arctic Monkeys played their first-ever gig. Having formed at
school, the teenage band were performing at the Grapes, a pub in the centre of
Sheffield, though their front man and chief songwriter was not even old enough to
drink in it.
So what, I ask Alex Turner, were his aspirations that night? ‘Just to get to the end of
the night and pull the bird that I fancied that I’d got to come down,’ Turner, 27, says,
chuckling. ‘Yeah, that was it. But we had practiced so much beforehand, and it was a
major deal just to go and play somewhere. I’d never been on a stage in my life before
that. I don’t think I opened my eyes for the whole set. But that 25 minutes – wow,’
he whispers.
Arctic Monkeys tickets are still available for their upcoming UK tour dates. Check
the latest prices with Telegraph Tickets.
In the text above the article is showing the reader an interview that occurred with members of
the band ( Alex Turner ) and talks about personal things that have happened in their lives which
can appeal to their fans. There is also and advertisement for the bands tour dates to try and get a
wider range of people to buy them using this newspaper. The article then goes on to talk about
their career as a band leading up to their latest album ‘AM’ which is then advertised by this
newspaper.
