1. Presenting research findings
Before I started to make my film trailer which is a comedy I had to do some research in how
to make a successful trailer in all aspects. The research I have done has a direct impact on
the production and quality of the film as I can then improve it. The trailer I will be making,
this also helped me understand the codes and conventions of an action film trailer, which
will later on be useful to my own movie trailer. To find what was needed in my research I
then got up aspects of a comedy trailer and parody and romance movies as they are usually
sub genres of comedies and I didn’t want them to be alike. All of the information I have
gathered will help me complete my work to the highest possible standard.
The research I carried out the most for my data was online which falls under secondary data
as I have used the internet for my research. The internet can be a reliable place to gain your
desired information and is also a really fast way to find it. I gained small pieces of
information through primary information by things like asking media teachers who know
much about movie genres and conventions and by flicking through books in the library.
I stored all of my work on my google drive database and also have all of my work emailed to
myself on my Gmail so I can always access it whilst I’m on a computer. I organised my work
by put it on my blog so I can always go back and refer to it and I can also go back and
improve it.
• During my research on comedy genres I have also found of what to put into my
movies and the most important conventions of them.
Sound:
• Sound is important in the comedy genre.
• First hand sound like the dialogue needs to be clear to make sure that it be can
heard and laughed at
• Background sounds is also important, edited sound can be used to place emphasis
on certain scenes.
Lighting:
• The lighting in is commonly bright or light, because this shows more of a realistic side
of a movie and makes it closer to reality.
Bright and happy colours are used to show that the scene is happy; the scenes are
done in daylight.
2. I put together a useful questionnaire and I have handed it out to people that are
from the age range from 15+ as that is the age range my movie trailer is targeted
towards. What I found out from my questionnaire is that people like to see comedy
with a bit of an action side with a problem arising and it needing to be solved in a
comedy styled way leading to a funny movie which also has a plot twist. After
explaining to 25 students my trailers plot they had decided to tell me whether or not
they felt that it was necessary to have it as a 15+ rated trailer and they had then told
me that It is suitable for 12 years olds as it doesn’t have an explicit side of the movie
and also doesn’t have a direct showing of illegal activity.
Finally, to conclude I believe that my research will certain help me improve my film
trailer as many things and conventions I have found out due to the research I did not
know before which then means that I can put my research into action that will
ultimately lead to me knowing more things and being able to use that to better my
trailer as an overall. By doing this research is has broadened my ideas and has also
helped me include more things in my trailer which leads to it being a more direct
representative of what I want to do with my movie trailer and how I can make it the
best and more professional that I can possible make it be.
