most popular newspaper with an average of 2.4 million readers per
day. Has a sister newspaper “The Sun Sunday”
• Daily Mirror. Tabloid and is owned by Trinity Mirror. Has a circulation of
1.04 million readers daily and also has a sisters newspaper “Daily
mirror Sunday”
• The Daily Star. Tabloid and is owned by Richard Desmond.
• The Guardian. Broadsheet and is owned by Guardian Media Group.
This is just a small list, there are many others but these were some of the
most popular ones listed.

3. LOCAL NEWSPAPERS
London has a wide range of local newspapers.
• Metro: Was published by Daily Mail and is free. Has
a circulation of approximately 1.4 million readers.
• Evening Standard: Was also published by Daily Mail
and started being handed out for free in the late
months of 2009.
• The Londoner: Was a newspaper published by the
mayor of London in 2008 and has a total circulation
of 3 million households. And at a cost of £2.8 million
to fund it was one of the most expensive
publication

4. NEWS CORP
• At one point News Corp was the worlds second
largest media group as of 2011. News Corp was
founded by Rupert Murdoch.
• News Corp owns many newspapers across the
world some of which include „The Sun‟ UK‟s most
popular paper. Not only does News Corp own
newspapers it also owns studios such as the world
renowned 20th Century Fox.

5. ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES OF
OWNING MANY NEWSPAPERS
Advantages:
• If a few people/companies own all the newspapers they
could promote the political interests and views on a certain
topic of their choice.
• This brings in more income for the owner/company of that
paper meaning they could publish higher quality papers.
Disadvantages:
• Readers will not get balanced view points as all of
the information will be promoting the same political
party/view.
• Most of the political view points and interests will be
the ones that the owner supports and approves of.
