- The data from our latest Texas Campus STaR Chart indicates that attention must be given to our instructional support for technology. In this presentation we will examine the results from the Comfort High School Campus STaR Chart Summary for the past three years, evaluate the data, and see what we can do to improve our use of technology on the campus.
- First, we will review the four areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology that are measured by the data in the STaR Chart. Next we will examine the data from the reports for Comfort High School to identify the area that needs the most attention. Finally, we will present some suggestions for improvement.
- The Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology addresses three main areas: Teaching and Learning, Educator Preparation and Development, Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support, and Infrastructure for Technology.
- Each year the teachers on each campus must complete the Campus STaR Chart which determines the classification for each area for that campus. Each area is classified as Early Tech, Developing Tech, Advanced Tech, or Target Tech. The numbers for each area for the years from 2006 – 2009 are shown of the chart on the following slide.
- From the chart we see that both Teaching and Learning and Infrastructure for Technology increased slightly from 2006-2007 to 2007-2008 and then more for 2008-2009. Educator Preparation and Development remained constant for two years and then increase for the next period. In the past year the area of Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support, however, declined from an Advanced Tech rating of 19 to an Advanced Tech rating of 15.
- After making great improvement from 2006-2007 to 2007-2008, going from Developing Tech to the upper levels of Advanced Tech, this area then decreased so that it is only one point away from being classified as Developing Tech again. Therefore, we need to give more attention to this area.
- From the data it is apparent that teachers feel that they are not receiving the support that they need to be able to adequately incorporate technology into the curriculum. To begin to provide the support they need we must form a committee to get input from the teachers. From this information a plan must be formulated to provide professional development that will begin to address the problem. One feature of this plan must be the provision of a person to act in the capacity of Instructional Technology Specialist so that enough time can be devoted to the issue to make an improvement.
