WATER DISTRIBUTION
SYSTEM
Naugong Spring
•Water Distribution System - A water distribution system
is a part of water supply network with components that
carry potable water from a centralized treatment plant
or wells to water consumers in order to adequately
deliver water to satisfy residential, commercial,
industrial and fire-fighting requirements.
•A water distribution system
consists of pipelines, storage
facilities, pumps, and other
accessories.
Purpose of water distribution system
•To give water to consumers with appropriate
quality and quantity.
•Describe collectivity the facilities used to supply
water from its source to the point of usage.
•Water quality should not get deteriorated in
the distribution pipes.
• World Health Organization (WHO) uses the term water
transmission system for a network of pipes, generally in tree-
like structure that is used to convey water from water treatment
plants to service reservoirs, and uses the term water
distribution system for a network of pipes that generally has a
loop structure to supply water from the service reservoirs and
balancing reservoirs to water consumers.
HISTORY OF LAGUNA
WATER DISTRICT
History
• The Laguna Water District (LWD) covers Los Baños, Bay, Calauan
and area ofVictoria, the four adjacent municipalities located
along the southern coastline of Laguna de Bay, in the province of
Laguna.
• Laguna water district formerly known as Los Baños Waterworks
became operational during the 1920’s, it was recognized by the
Sangguniang Bayan of Los Baños to function as an independent
and separate office on January 10,1977 thus renaming Los Baños
Waterworks as Los Baños Water District.
• Actual operation of Los baños Water District began on February
11,1977 after the annexation of the adjoining municipalities of
Bay and Calauan, Laguna. Los Baños Water District was
renamed as Laguna Water District or LWD as we know it now.
• At present LWD has a total of 160 personnel in its main office at
Brgy. Anos, Los Baños, Laguna and extension offices at Brgy.
San Antonio, Los Baños, Laguna and Calauan Laguna. It delivers
potable water to the municipalities of Los Baños, Bay, Calauan
andVictoria and maintains 11 water sources which supplies
almost 43,697 house holds.
• Laguna Water District is the largest water, used water, and
environmental services provider in the Province of Laguna with
more than 100,000 service connections. The company attributes
its continued success to its steadfast commitment to provide
quality customer experience, strong network of industry
partners, and wide knowledge and experience in water and used
water operations.
NAUGONG SPRING
•Naugong spring is located in Calauan, Laguna. It
covers three barangays, namely: Mabacan,
Paliparan, and Perez.
•Currently, Naugong spring is in good water condition
although it is used only for irrigation by the people near
the spring since agriculture is the livelihood mostly by
the people in the area.
•6 years ago, there were students who researched about
the possibility of Naugong spring as an additional water
source for LagunaWater District by designing a water
distribution system to it.They concluded that Naugong
spring is capable of providing potable water source near
and slightly farther from its area since the capacity of
the spring is greater than the water needs of the people
near the spring.
•In the present time, LagunaWater District, with its
resources, is capable of designing a water distribution
system, with Naugong spring as its source. However,
they did not pursue to build a water distribution system
to it, since their current sources of water around Laguna
is capable in providing water to all its customers.
ISSUESAND CHALLENGES
•The Naugong spring can be rehabilitated as a source for
water distribution instead of drilling deep wells.
•It can cause damage to nature if they build a water
distribution system at the Naugong spring.
•If ever the water distribution sytem is built, the
maintenance cost will be expensive.
CONCLUSION
•The LagunaWater District recommends to maintain the
current situation of Naugong spring.
•Economically, it is not needed yet feasible to design a
water distribution system at the Naugong spring since
LagunaWater District can provide water throughout
Laguna, specificallyCalauan.

Case Study No. 4-Design of Water Distribution System using Naugong spring as an additional water source for Laguna water district

  • 1. ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT WATER RESOURCES ENGINEERING CE428 CASE STUDY NO. 4-DESIGN OFWATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM USING NAUGONG SPRING AS AN ADDITIONAL WATER SOURCE FOR LAGUNAWATER DISTRICT Presented by: FERRER, JOSEF CYRIL S. GONATICE, BILLY JOE O. LAZO, JOHN KAISSER I. Presented to: Dr.Tomas U. Ganiron, Jr
  • 3. •Water Distribution System - A water distribution system is a part of water supply network with components that carry potable water from a centralized treatment plant or wells to water consumers in order to adequately deliver water to satisfy residential, commercial, industrial and fire-fighting requirements.
  • 4. •A water distribution system consists of pipelines, storage facilities, pumps, and other accessories.
  • 5. Purpose of water distribution system •To give water to consumers with appropriate quality and quantity. •Describe collectivity the facilities used to supply water from its source to the point of usage. •Water quality should not get deteriorated in the distribution pipes.
  • 6. • World Health Organization (WHO) uses the term water transmission system for a network of pipes, generally in tree- like structure that is used to convey water from water treatment plants to service reservoirs, and uses the term water distribution system for a network of pipes that generally has a loop structure to supply water from the service reservoirs and balancing reservoirs to water consumers.
  • 8. History • The Laguna Water District (LWD) covers Los Baños, Bay, Calauan and area ofVictoria, the four adjacent municipalities located along the southern coastline of Laguna de Bay, in the province of Laguna. • Laguna water district formerly known as Los Baños Waterworks became operational during the 1920’s, it was recognized by the Sangguniang Bayan of Los Baños to function as an independent and separate office on January 10,1977 thus renaming Los Baños Waterworks as Los Baños Water District.
  • 9. • Actual operation of Los baños Water District began on February 11,1977 after the annexation of the adjoining municipalities of Bay and Calauan, Laguna. Los Baños Water District was renamed as Laguna Water District or LWD as we know it now. • At present LWD has a total of 160 personnel in its main office at Brgy. Anos, Los Baños, Laguna and extension offices at Brgy. San Antonio, Los Baños, Laguna and Calauan Laguna. It delivers potable water to the municipalities of Los Baños, Bay, Calauan andVictoria and maintains 11 water sources which supplies almost 43,697 house holds.
  • 10. • Laguna Water District is the largest water, used water, and environmental services provider in the Province of Laguna with more than 100,000 service connections. The company attributes its continued success to its steadfast commitment to provide quality customer experience, strong network of industry partners, and wide knowledge and experience in water and used water operations.
  • 12. •Naugong spring is located in Calauan, Laguna. It covers three barangays, namely: Mabacan, Paliparan, and Perez.
  • 13. •Currently, Naugong spring is in good water condition although it is used only for irrigation by the people near the spring since agriculture is the livelihood mostly by the people in the area. •6 years ago, there were students who researched about the possibility of Naugong spring as an additional water source for LagunaWater District by designing a water distribution system to it.They concluded that Naugong spring is capable of providing potable water source near and slightly farther from its area since the capacity of the spring is greater than the water needs of the people near the spring.
  • 14. •In the present time, LagunaWater District, with its resources, is capable of designing a water distribution system, with Naugong spring as its source. However, they did not pursue to build a water distribution system to it, since their current sources of water around Laguna is capable in providing water to all its customers.
  • 15. ISSUESAND CHALLENGES •The Naugong spring can be rehabilitated as a source for water distribution instead of drilling deep wells. •It can cause damage to nature if they build a water distribution system at the Naugong spring. •If ever the water distribution sytem is built, the maintenance cost will be expensive.
  • 16. CONCLUSION •The LagunaWater District recommends to maintain the current situation of Naugong spring. •Economically, it is not needed yet feasible to design a water distribution system at the Naugong spring since LagunaWater District can provide water throughout Laguna, specificallyCalauan.
