Powerpoint 3
1.
2. Blown up image, main focus
as the image takes up a whole
page. This image is like a
bleeding image as it could be
continued off the page.
Use the
colour blue
throughout
on this page,
makes the
text stand
out more.
Reminding the
reader the name
of the magazine.
This is a lure. It is a
section of text that seeks
to highlight a poignant
piece of the article,
which inspires the
audience interest, and
encourages them to
read on.
Reminding the reader
that they can also
access NME online.
Two columns to the article, the page looks
quite busy, it has some text on but not loads
so the readers don’t get bored. They also
want to see images instead of reading to see
the real thing, which NME have done here.
There’s some gutter space which may imply
that the magazines readership are
frightened by lengthy text.
Blown up quotes to
catch the reader’s
attention. The reader
may only read the
quote and wonder
about it, which will
make them want to
read more.
Cropped
image,
made to fit
in a
particular
place.
Different
use of
font but
not a
dramatic
change
from the
other so
it still
matches
and
looks
tidy.
Main
colours
used, blue,
and black
and white.
Used the
bright blue
to catch
people’s
attention
and to
make it
look not so
boring by
just using
black and
white.
Readers want to know
the gossip and what
everyone’s talking about
incase their ‘missing
out’. Names of people
in bigger bolder writing
to grab people attention
when they recognise
the names and are
interested in what NME
has to say about them.
Also may shock the
readers.
NME is showing the audience from these
pictures behind in the background, what men are
like this tell us who the target audience is for this
magazine. From this blown up image and the title
‘the teenagers’ is gives away the mode of
address you guess that the article is going to be
quite funny and the producers are going to try
and make you laugh.
3. This whole double page spread is in
black and white. This makes the page
have a ‘scary’ effect. You can see that
the genre of the magazine is rock/heavy
metal from the clothes the people have
on and with the black and white theme it
adds to the effect. The people also look
quite scary with their makeup and the
way they are positioned it makes them
look like they are putting a lot of effort
into what they are doing to make the
audience be interested and be inspired
by it.
The image has continued across
the two pages it takes up more
then one page so we know that
this is meant to be the main
focus, which it is as you are
attracted to it straight away as it
stands out so much.
The title is black
and bold which
stands out. They
use harsh words
like ‘die’ to grab
attention also in
bold so the reader
recognises the
name.
Not a lot of
gutter
space so
implies
that the
magazines
readership
are not
frightened
by lengthy
text. But
as the
image is
spread out
on a page
also could
say there’s
not a lot of
text, the
producers
are trying
not to
bored the
reader by
too much
reading.
Lure, to entice the audience
into reading the article. This
is a blown up section of text
with an image that the
readers will straight away
recognise so they will read it
as they wonder what its
about. This highlights a
poignant piece of the article,
which may inspire audience
interest and encourage them
to read more. The lure is
overlapping the main article
to emphasise it and attract
the reader.
Small caption before the
reader reads the article
to get their interest and
so they know what its
about and make them
want to read on.
White background so the
black stands out the
black makes the page
look harsh and
interesting.
Grey background to
ass to the effect also to
add in a new colour but
not using very much so
you can still have the
other effect with the
black and white. They
didn’t want to use a
bright colour, as it
wouldn’t fit with the
theme and genre.
Instrumen
ts and
equipmen
t inspires
the
reader, as
they want
to be like
them and
do what
they do.
Big ‘M’ at
the
beginning
of the text
to direct the
readers
and get
them to
start
reading it
so to attract
them to the
beginning.
The page is
mirrored as it is
balanced well with
the image on one
side and the text on
the other. So there
is not space and the
page it filled. The
magazine is offering
the readers a lot.
4. We can see the
main focus is the
image as it is spread
across the two
pages. The set
scene when this
image was taking is
explained in the
article. The audience
recognise the people
straight away and
attracts them into
reading about them.
NME magazines have a
radar page where they
are finding what’s going
on in the music industry.
The font of ‘radar’ is
white which stands out
on the blue background
this is to get peoples
attention and make the
readers notice this page
when they are ‘flicking’
through the magazine.
Small
caption to
tell the
reader
what’s
going on
and make
them read
more. It’s
not too big,
as they
want the
reader to
be
attracted to
the main
article.
The image is a bleeding image
as it could be continued off of the
page. You can see that the
people in the image are more
important and are the main focus
as they are in front and brought
out right to the front. The
background is less important but
still has a meaning to it. This
image is like a stand first as it
seeks the article and has a set
scene.
Blue theme fits
with the house
style of the
page. Also to
grab people
attention small
caption but is
attracted by the
audience, as it
is blue.
In front of
the rest
so has
more
focus on
him. Also
the way
he is
standing
you can
see he is
meant to
be the
main
attraction.
Black bold catchy title
in capitals to get
attention straight away
and make the readers
read more as they
wonder about the title.
Big bold capital
letter to direct the
readers to the
beginning of the
article and make
them read it.
The article is very short
so it shows that the
image has a big
meaning. Not a lot of
gutter space in the box
so could say that the
producers aren’t afraid
of lengthy text but also
as the image is so big
you could say there’s not
enough text. The
producers don’t want to
bore the readers.
