Purpose
This classroom course describes how jobs are processes in the OS/400, how to balance
the workload on the AS/400 to ensure optimum performance and then do performance
monitor to gather performance data. It also teaches how to use the IBM Performance
Tools/400 reports, displays and graphics to analyze system performance. Hands-on ex-
ercises give you the opportunity to use the system functions that are available for con-
trolling workload and tuning system performance.
Audience
This course is design for data processing managers, programmers, analysis and people
responsible for performance analysis on AS/400 System. Performance Tools/400 should
be installed on at least one of your AS/400 System.
Prerequisite
You should complete the following course or experience iSeries System Operation
Fundamental or similar knowledge experiences.
Objectives
 Manage jobs by :
- Setting the appropriate system values
- Modifying subsystem descriptions to fit the workload
- Tailoring job descriptions to fit processing needs
 Create unique environments (subsystem,class,jobs, etc)
 Evaluate current performance and tune the performance using system parame-
ters (pools size,activity level, system values etc)
 Describe the relationship between resource utilization and response time.
 Understand the collection services,collector functions and how to configure the
collection services.
 Start and end the performance monitor and print performance Tools AS/400 re-
ports.
 Use performnsce tools/400 reports,displays and graphics to analyze systemand job
performance.
 Use performance Tools/400 to analyze the effects of implementing tecniques to
enhance system performance
