YASMIN I’ve analysed the opening two minutes of Yasmin in order to look at the key features they have used and apply them, if possible, to my own production. This will also help with my understanding of the British film industry and British Social Realism films.
The titles at the start of Yasmin last for 14 seconds with the film following.
These shots show the type of class and community it is within the film – working-class families and quite a close community. The clothing they are wearing are quite simplistic but they also show the religious part of their life.
This shot shows the racism the community deal with – which is the main issue throughout this film. This creates enigma codes for the audience as they will think why is someone being racist/why would someone discriminate.
This establishing shot shows the setting in which the film is set - working class area, not a lot of money goes into the area.
This shows the relationships the people of the British muslim community have, which looks like a close one. The characters shown here are wearing their religious clothing showing the audience their faith and beliefs.
This shot introduces the main character of the film. This shot shows her trying to get out of her religious clothing and into every day-to-day clothing. This will make the audience think why is she doing that and why is she doing it there.
