A warrant for Anthony's arrest was sent out two
weeks after her voting experience
Deputy Marshall showed up at the Anthony house
and arrested Anthony, who had been expecting
this.
Anthony demanded to be arrested like a man and
wanted no special treatment.

Anthony hoped to use the trial as a hearing with the
Supreme Court for revision of the Fourteenth
Amendment.
She wanted "citizens" and "privileges and
immunities" to extend to women.
Her lawyers made it very apparent that Anthony believed
she had the right to vote.
Her lawyers stated that Anthony did not violate the
law because it prohibits only willful and knowing
illegal votes.

3. The
Arrest

Anthony was found guilty and refused bail.
Judge Selden paid her bail which cost her the opportunity
to get her case before the Supreme Court.
His reason for this action was that he could not watch
a lady he respected be put in jail.
Anthony was disappointed that she would not reach the
Supreme Court, but still saw her trial as an opportunity to
promote women suffrage.

4. The

The trial arrived.
Anthony's lawyers were less optimistic
because of the campaigning by Anthony prior
to the trial.
Anthony was sentenced to the payment of
$100 and the costs of the prosecution. She
never paid these fines.
