3. INTRODUCTION
In olden days the primary purpose of a
health care system was to provide care to
the ill and injured. However, with
increasing awareness health care systems
are changing, as are the roles of health
care providers in these areas. Health care
providers has the many responsibilities
towards community and clients. Apart from
us our clients has some responsibilities
towards the health care system also.
4. HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
Definition :A health care system is
the totality of services offered by all
health disciplines.
5. HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS
Health care provider is an individual
or an institution that provides
preventive, curative, promotional or
rehabilitative health care services in a
systematic way to individuals,
families or communities.
6. Terminology
Preventative care:
A pattern of nursing and medical care
that focuses on disease prevention and
health maintenance. It includes early
diagnosis of disease, counseling, and
other necessary intervention to avert a
health problem. Screening tests, health
education, and immunization programs
are common examples of preventive
care.
7. Curative care: Curative care is the
kind of health care traditionally
oriented towards seeking a cure for
an existent disease or medical
condition.
8. Rehabilitative care: Rehabilitative
care is a treatment or treatments
designed to facilitate the process of
recovery from injury, illness, or
disease to as normal a condition as
possible.

10. HEALTH PROMOTION & ILLNESS
PREVENTION
Health promotion activities include
adequate & proper nutrition, weight control
& exercise and stress reduction.
Illness prevention program emphasis on
immunization, identifying risk factors of
illness.
It also include environmental programs that
can reduce the illness or disability.
Early detection of disease is also a part of
health promotion.
11. Responsibilities of government, health care providers
and the community in primary prevention
Governmental agencies role or
responsibility:
Governmental agencies support the system
through providing resources.
Resources may be funds, place, time,
manpower, supplies etc.,
Health care agencies are collaborating with
international agencies to conduct and organize
these programs.

responsibility:
Conduct the health programs with the
available resources such as immunization,

environmental sanitation etc.,
Health teaching is the main responsibility
as primary care giver.
Home visits.
14. Follow up of teaching.
Encourage the community or people
to maintain the highest level of
wellness they can achieve.
Maintain a record or data who has
participated in these programs
15. For early detection of diseases routine
screening is performed.
Simple measures like blood pressure
checking, blood examinations etc.,
Voluntary HIV testing & counseling is
an other example of some of the
services.
16. Community responsibility towards
employees:
Participate in the health care
programs organized by the health
care providers or agencies
Follow the instruction given by the
health care providers.
Provide reliable data about their
family and their health status.

Hospitals and physician’s offices have
been the major agencies offering
these complex services.
Governmental agencies responsibility:
Try to build diagnostic centers which is
easily access by the community.
Supply with adequate machines and
equipments
Recruit specialized and trained
personnel's for the job
18. Employees responsibility:
Give adequate guidance regarding these
services and method of each diagnostic
procedures.
Introduce them with the availability of
diagnostic centers and clinics.
Psychological support and let them
ventilate their feelings.
Keep the data confidentially.

Access these free services provided
by the governmental agencies.
Follow the instructions given by the
health care providers.
Provide reliable and accurate data to
the agencies.
20. REHABILITATION, HEALTH
RESTORATION & PALLIATIVE CARE
Rehabilitation is a process of
restoring ill or injured people to
optimum and functional levels of
wellness.
The goal of rehabilitation is to help
people to move to their previous level
of health or to the highest level they
are capable of given their current
health status.
21. Governmental agencies responsibility:
Provide with rehabilitative centers easily
accessible for the people.
Provide free service as much as possible.
Supply adequate equipments needed to
meet the palliative care for the clients.
Employees Responsibilities:
Introduce them with the nearest
rehabilitative centers.
22. Educate them regarding the
importance of rehabilitation.
Keep a record of these people.
Community responsibility:
Follow the instructions and contact
your primary health care providers in
need.
Religiously follow the appointments.
23. Apart from these responsibilities
clients and health care providers has

Respect each client irrespective of
their cast, color, creed , social status,
etc.,
Make them aware about their
responsibilities as well.

Give proper and correct information
regarding their diagnosis, treatment.
To give care options when other
facilities are available.
Give privacy and confidentiality.
Show respect and consideration.
Consider them as unique individual.

including your health status present or past,
habits, other matters
Keep on times for appointments
Clear your queries when you are in a doubt.

26. CONCLUSION
As WHO states “Health is a state of
complete physical, mental and social
well being and not merely the
absence of disease or infirmity". To
keep this motto up our health care
providers are approaching the
community in a systematic way in
order to prevent or cure health
problems and promote good health in
humans.
