GETTING TRAFFIC TO A WEBSITE OR
BLOG IS THE FIRST STEP TO
SUCCESS ONLINE.
It should be your number one goal, without traffic to your blog, you can’t get the leads or
sales you need to generate income.
When you first get started online you want traffic overnight.
But it takes time to build up traffic, and unless you’re actively pursuing paid advertising
you’re going to need patience.
I’ll give you some tips in this post on how you can increase your blog traffic; just make
sure you read it through till the end for all the useful information.
2. First I’ll give you a quick look at a blog I set up just 12 days ago.
You can see by the analytics that I’ve gone from zero to 113 visitors a day in just twelve
days.
In the picture below I went from 48 to 103 overnight.
On Day Twelve (Yesterday I was at a 138)
By tomorrow I will be at more than 200 visitors a day.
3. How can I calculate that?
Because I’ve been doing this for three years and have written thousands of articles that
have generated traffic on dozens of websites.
There is a compound effect that happens, it’s like a snowball and as you gain
momentum the numbers start to stack.
First it starts small, then it builds and gradually increases, finally your traffic hits a
tipping point and the visitors begin to flood in.
It takes time and most importantly consistency.
Getting traffic is like exercise; you wouldn’t work out once and expect to be in great
shape.
It’s the same way with blogging, chances are you’re not going to write one post and get
a ton of traffic.
Although, traffic spikes can happen with effective viral marketing.
The real goal here is to perform the daily task that overtime will give your blog the
breakthrough it needs to get massive results.
Before we get into traffic specifics, let’s shed some light on what it takes.
The first rule is you have to blog with purpose, set your intent for what your blog
will be dedicated too.
In the beginning blogging can be difficult because you are still developing your writing
style.
You should still pick a general theme for your blog, but it’s OK if you veer at times as
well.
4. Remember blogging is meant to be fun, and your blog is an extension of who you are.
When you write, you have to write with the readers in mind, but you have to write for
yourself.
I mean be authentic and speak your mind, the best way I can put it is to write how you
talk.
You’ll begin to get your flow down and be able to create compelling content on a whim.
The next rule I want to speak about is taking action, never be a person who gets
stuck in learning.
The 80/20 rule applies to blogging, that is…
Spend 20% of your time studying aspects of writing, traffic, selling, copywriting and
marketing, and spend the other 80% implementing what you know.
The law of implementation states – Knowledge isn’t power; applied knowledge with
purposeful action is power.
When you learn to focus that power towards one objective goal, like getting sales, it
becomes incendiary, like the sun shined through a magnifying glass.
Again I want to instill the importance of consistency.
Consistent daily action is key to success with anything in life.
And when it comes to blogging, that means fresh content and syndication.
There are specific reasons for being consistent when blogging.
First of all, there are a bazillion blogs out in the world and each one of them post
content.
Without consistency it’s hard for people to notice you, it’s hard for the searches to index
you.
5. And people want to follow consistency; they are comfortable with routine and are
creatures of habit.
Consistency shows Google that you’re serious, and when you are blogging daily
on a specific theme you are increasing your chances of ranking on the pages and
attracting relevant readers.
Along with consistency you have to deliver valuable content.
You’ll hear the word epic a lot, and that’s great but the word has been overplayed.
My best piece of advice is to focus each piece of content on one of the following basis.
Inspiration and motivation, people love to get motivated and love inspirational writing.
Lifestyle, this lets people with similar interest connect with you.
So if you love to skydive, or garden, or do whatever, share it with the world.
It’s important to show people that you’re human and have your own needs, wants and
desires.
Training, training others is important and you always get paid on the amount of value
you deliver.
It’s important not to give everything away however because you’ll wind up broke.
Entertainment, people love videos of cats and dogs and all that, but you don’t want to
do this too often because people will not associate with you.
They’ll just get a good laugh and move on.
Personal development, the basis of all existence is growth and progress.
6. Help people add increase to their life, and you’ll see miracles happen in yours.
What is comes down to is being unique, and if you’re going to model your blog after
other people, make sure you model after a blogger who has the results you want.
You have to stand out and show Google that you’re a force to be reckoned with.
You do this by being consistent and delivering value.
LET’S TALK ABOUT BLOG
TRAFFIC NOW.
What are the most common ways to get traffic to your blog?
SEO – or search engine optimization is one of the primary ways to get visitors.
Search optimization is long term; it takes time and study and is a method best used for
people who have patience and a technical side.
I do recommend that everyone gets a general idea about SEO.
Aspects like keyword research with Google, Trends, and Keyword Planner are all
important to success with blogging.
Below is a sample of a first page ranking for a post I recently did (note I am not signed
in so there is no personal relevance in the ranking)
7. Copywriting is another useful skill that is essential to success.
Blogging is not like writing a novel, dissertation, article, or email.
There is an art form to it that you will develop over time.
Once again the best way to develop the skills needed to write good content is to model
after others who already have the success you want.
Then take massive action.
Copywriting is important because of headlines.
The headlines of your blog are just as important as your body.
I always write 25 headlines, there is no point in writing a blog that is 1,000 words if no
one will read it.
The headlines can make the difference between success and failure.
Social media will be another important traffic source.
As an example, a lot of people use Twitter.
They tweet their blog once a day and then let it go.
I tweet my blog 10 times in a 24 hour period.
And I get leads every time.
8. It’s also important to understand that not everyone likes Facebook.
In fact, some people hate it.
But, there are hundreds of sites out on the internet that people use.
Many people don’t go to Google when they’re first searching for a topic.
They go to YouTube, SlideShare, or Ezine Articles.
And that brings me to the next point of traffic, repurposing.
You can make a video about your blog, and link it to your blog.
You can format your blog into a PDF, and upload it on to the file sharing sites.
My tip in using document sharing sites to redistribute your content would be to pick a
theme of blogs for a week…
FOR EXAMPLE, SEVEN DAYS OF
GETTING TRAFFIC.
Day One – Introduction and fundamentals of traffic
Day Two – SEO
Day Three – PPC
Day Four – Email Subscribers
Day Five – Viral Marketing
Day Six – Social Media
Day Seven – Recap
Once you’ve completed the week and seven blogs, take all of them and format them
into a short ereport.
9. You can upload it on the file sharing sites, make a capture page for it and give it away in
return for emails on your blog or in PPC.
I know I am giving a lot of information here, but I want you to get creative, and I want to
see you succeed.
Traffic is easy and the possibilities are endless.
By the end of February I’ll be at more than 1,000 visitors a day, and by the end of April I
will be at more than 3,000 visitors a day, and getting dozens of leads. (Remember
what I said about intention)
These visitors will be with 100% free marketing.
So recap is…
Value driven content.
Consistent daily action.
Be authentic.
Pick a theme.
Learn, teach, apply.
Inspire, motivate and grow.
Have fun.
Use everything in your arsenal.
Do whatever it takes.
And above all else, always keep moving forward.
You’re going to go through ups and downs, some blogs won’t get traffic.
Other’s will crush it.
10. You’ve got to see the long term end results, which is…
Your freedom.
I believe in you…
