 Idea Cellular to bring branded 4G-enabled smartphones
Idea Cellular is in talks with TCL Communications of China to procure 4G-enabled smartphones for
supporting its high-speed broadband services which will be launched soon in the country. The technical
and product evaluations are underway currently and a Request for Proposal will be given out for the
device procurement, soon. The company plans to cover 750 towns by mid-2016. Idea had acquired
spectrum in 1,800 MHz band for offering 4G services, during the last two spectrum auctions in February
2014 and March 2015.
 Bharti Infratel incorporates new Wi-Fi subsidiary
Bharti Infratel, with the incorporation of its new subsidiary, Smartx Services Limited on Sep 21, 2015, has
joined the Wi-Fi bandwagon. The subsidiary will focus on setting up of Wi-Fi hotspots and transmission
through optic fibre cables in order to provide services to the telecom operators and others on a sharing
basis. It currently has a consolidated portfolio of over 87,184 telecom towers, which includes over 37,801
of its own towers.
 Airtel launches data cashback offers
Bharti Airtel has started to offer data benefits which includes data share and cashbacks for its mobile
customers. This is part of its efforts to attract more of the higher-paying data customers which has picked
up pace. Airtel customers can enjoy the data cashback in the form of a daily morning credit of 50 percent
of the consumed data (2G/3G/4G) between 12.00 to 6.00 AM. The move targets the wide cross section of
consumers for whom the network usage in the late hours is lower. The plan may help increase
consumption of network during late hours.

 Airtel to spend additional capex on Indian 3G, 4G sites
Bharti Airtel intends to spend an additional USD 200 - 400 million as capex for Indian 3G and 4G sites in
this fiscal year. The company has estimated its Indian and South Asian capex to be at USD 2.3 billion, of
which the majority will be on India. The investment is due to the growth in the handset shipments which
is expected to be 20 million this quarter, 10 million of which will be 4G enabled.
 NTT Communications to invest INR 1,000 crore in India
NTT Communications of Japan plans to invest around INR 1,000 crore in the next three years in India. The
company is expanding its data centre business and is applying for a national long-distance license to
connect the data centres and client locations through optical fibre cables. The company has already
invested around INR 1,079 crore in the past three years in India.

2.  Reliance Jio to raise INR 3,000 crore
Reliance Jio Infocomm is planning to raise INR 3,000 crore by the issue of redeemable non-convertible
debentures on private placement basis. The company has risen around INR 4,500 from a consortium
backed by Korea Trade Insurance Corporation in May 2015, in order to buy telecom equipment from Ace
Technologies and Samsung Electronics. Reliance Jio Infocomm is a INR 1 lakh crore telecom venture of
Reliance Industries Limited.
