Existing in a very rudimentary form for decades, brackishwater aquaculture in Bangladesh had been until recently nothing more than a casual activity in some tidal flood plain areas in the southwest part of the country. In the early seventies, Bangladesh entered the world export market for shrimp. This crustacean, which was locally cheap and not even accepted as food by many locals, suddenly became a very high priced commodity. Since then much attention has been focused on increased production of this crustacean. The public sector efforts concentrated on the exploitation of shrimp from the sea by operating trawlers. The increasing demand and steadily rising prices of shrimp also caused a silent revolution in the brackishwater aquafarming sector: what was merely a casual activity of little economic significance, emerged as a multimillion taka farming industry in a few years time. Increased by leaps and bound, the shrimp culture activities were spread over a 26,000 ha area by the beginning of the current decade. Surprising though, all this development took place in the private sector, without any extension, demonstration or new infrastructure support from the Government of Bangladesh. It is only since 1980, the starting year of the Second Five Year Plan, that brackishwater aquafarming has officially come to prominence. In the Third Five Year Plan (1985â90) high priority has been given to brackishwater shrimp and fish culture. In view of the urgent socio-economic needs of the country (for domestic consumption, for export and for rural employment), the favourable ecological condition for shrimp culture and the existence of large areas with high production potential, this national priority for brackishwater aquafarming development is most justified. According to the Third Five Year Plan projection, brackishwater aquaculture will extend over 80,000 ha, as against 55,812 ha in 1984/85. By the end of the plan period, the production will expectedly increase to 34,000 MT, from a 1984/85 production of 9,000 MT. Nearly 18,000 MT of exportable shrimp would possibly come from aquaculture; this quantity would be 60 percent of the shrimp quantity projected for export in the terminal year of the Third Plan. The present shrimp farming area is reported to have already far exceeded the Third Five Year Plan target. At the beginning of 1986, shrimp culture activities spread over 115,000 ha, distributed over several coastal districts (Annex A). The production per unit area is, however, still rather low. The need for increase of the production rate by intensification of the culture methodologies is currently being emphasized. Thereabove, the farmers are facing a number of technical problems, that need systematic analysis and appropriate solution. The planned Brackishwater Fisheries Research Station (BFRS) under the Fisheries Research Institute will hopefully meet the research requirements for the brackishwater aquaculture sector of the country.

Any aquatic invertebrate animals having a cutaneous or calcareous shell surrounding there body and belonging to the phylum Mollusca, the class Crustacea (phylum Arthropoda), or phylum Echinodermata is known as shellfish. The term is often used for the edible species of the groups, especially those that are fished or raised commercially. The most commercially important shellfish are: âą Mollusk: Oysters, mussels, scallops and clams âą Crustacean: Shrimp, prawn, lobster, crab and crayfish âą Echinoderm: sea urchins and sea cucumbers Shellfish hatchery is a place where shellfish seeds are produced in a controlled way. Hatchery management is a branch of science which deals with the activities including from collection of brood shellfish to seed production. Culturing of shellfish has occurred since ancient times. Although controlled rearing of young shell has long existed, hatchery production is a more recent advancement. Producing seed under controlled conditions in a hatchery will disconnect its production from environmental factors and provide a reliable supply of seed. Oysters, mussels and mud crabs are the most important groups of shellfish after shrimp and prawn. These are popular among the western countries and becoming more popular all over the world. So hatchery management of oyster, mussel and crab is crucial.

Selection of the pond site is one of the most important steps in construction. A good pond site contains (l) Level topography that provides for economical construction, (2) soil with sufficient clay to hold water and (3) an adequate water supply. Before making the final site selection, one should examine all potential sites considering economics, accessibility and safety. Economically speaking, construct a pond that provides the largest volume of water with the least amount of landfill. Liability is a final consideration. For example, what would happen if the dam failed causing loss of life or injury? The pond owner is normally held liable for downstream flooding and related damages caused by dam failure.

Marine protected area Marine protected areas (MPA) are protected areas of seas, oceans, estuaries or in the US, the Great Lakes .[2] These marine areas can come in many forms ranging from wildlife refuges to research facilities.[3] MPAs restrict human activity for a conservation purpose, typically to protect natural or cultural resources.[4] Such marine resources are protected by local, state, territorial, native, regional, national, or international authorities and differ substantially among and between nations. This variation includes different limitations on development, fishing practices, fishing seasons and catch limits, moorings and bans on removing or disrupting marine life. In some situations (such as with the Phoenix Islands Protected Area), MPAs also provide revenue for countries, potentially equal to the income that they would have if they were to grant companies permissions to fish.[5] On 28 October 2016 in Hobart, Australia, the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources agreed to establish the first Antarctic and largest marine protected area in the world encompassing 1.55 million km2 (600,000 sq mi) in the Ross Sea.[6] Other large MPAs are in the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans, in certain exclusive economic zones of Australia and overseas territories of France, the United Kingdom and the United States, with major (990,000 square kilometres (380,000 sq mi) or larger) new or expanded MPAs by these nations since 2012âsuch as Natural Park of the Coral Sea, Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands Marine Protected Area. When counted with MPAs of all sizes from many other countries, as of August 2016 there are more than 13,650 MPAs, encompassing 2.07% of the world's oceans, with half of that area â encompassing 1.03% of the world's oceans â receiving complete "no-take" designation.[7]

Whale Shark The largest of all sharks and the largest living fish, the whale shark is one of the most dramatic views of the ocean. Its large size, distinctive patterns and its enormous mouth make it instantly recognizable and can be commonly seen wandering near the surface in tropical and subtropical waters around the world. Their diet is based mainly on plankton, but also regularly feed on small schooling fish and squid. Unlike basking sharks, which simply filter vast amounts of water as they swim, whale sharks actively suck their prey before filtering efficiently and are sometimes seen in groups, feeding on high concentrations of food. Regularly appear in the same places at specific times of the year, probably to capitalize on plankton blooms and events such as coral spawning.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. Itâs so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. About authorWith two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the worldâs largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Dubai, often portrayed as a shimmering oasis in the desert, faces its own set of challenges, including the occasional threat of flooding. Despite its reputation for opulence and modernity, the emirate is not immune to the forces of nature. In recent years, Dubai has experienced sporadic but significant floods, testing the resilience of its infrastructure and communities. Among the critical lifelines in this bustling metropolis is the Dubai International Airport, a bustling hub that connects the city to the world. This article explores the intersection of Dubai flood events and the resilience demonstrated by the Dubai International Airport in the face of such challenges.

Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) is the most popular style of large language model application to emerge from 2023. The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. This is just the beginning. One of the ways that we can extend RAG, and extend AI, is through multilingual use cases. Typical RAG is done in English using embedding models that are trained in English. In this talk, weâll explore how RAG could work in languages other than English. Weâll explore French, Chinese, and Polish.

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions.
