COMPLIMENTS OF A
COMPLETE GUIDE TO WALT DISNEY WORLD Visit us on the web at http://www.guide2wdw.com Version 5.0 – Send me email at laura@guide2wdw.com with suggested changes! Featured Hotel: – Located just 1.5 miles from Disney - A Disney Good Neighbor Hotel - Free shuttles - Kids Eat Free - 3 beautiful pools with waterfalls, whirlpools and a 40’ water slide - 5 food and beverage outlets MAGIC KINGDOM TIPS FOR THE MAGIC KINGDOM Here's a good tip for riding the Magic Kingdom Mountains. Go to Space Mountain first in the morning. Most people go to Frontierland because 2 of the mountains are there. Space Mountain is less crowded and you can ride it 2 to 3 times in a row without the line being over 20 minutes (just make sure you get to Magic Kingdom before the park actually opens). Get to Frontierland at about lunch time. The ride line will be a lot shorter because most people will be eating. If you want to ride Splash Mountain twice, I suggest get a fastpass, get in the stand-by line, and ride it. When your done, if there's time left, go to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and by that time, you can get in the fastpass line for Splash Mountain. Thanks to Gabriella for this tip! If you stay at the Magic Kingdom through the fireworks show to park closing, you will be leaving with thousands of others also trying to get to the main parking lot and their cars. As you exit the Magic Kingdom, you'll no doubt notice huge lines to get on the Disney Transportation Buses, the Steamboats across the Lagoon, and especially up the ramp to the Monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center. What you will also notice is that while those three transportation methods have lines and long waits comparable to the most popular rides, the one ramp that is sparsely used is the Monorail to Resorts. Save yourself lots of time, pushing, shoving, short fuses and all around inconvenience after a long day of walking - Take the Monorail to the Resorts. First stop is the Contemporary Hotel, second stop? you may have guessed it by now, The Transportation and Ticket Center! Since the sign reads To Resorts, people looking to get to the TTC follow that sign. Try this Sneaky Trick on your next visit and you will find that you not only get to your car faster, but will beat the biggest crunch of cars exiting - because all those people are still waiting for a ride to the TTC! Thanks to Larry for this tip! We recently visit WDW 4/2/04 to 4/10/04. We learned of a new service that just open a few weeks prior, called quot;Kiddie Conciergequot;. It was located in Tomorrowland at the MK. The purpose is to give a break to preschool and younger children, as well as their parents. It was a clean, quiet, air conditioned room with a cast member at the front desk, who helped us to look up dining availability. There was a large room with beanbag chairs for the kids, couches for the kids and/or adults, while a movie was playing. There was a play area with some toys for toddlers. There were men's and women's bathrooms, with a door you could lock for privacy. There was a diaper changing room and yet another small room with rocking chairs, which I assume was there for nursing mothers. There was a kitchenette with a microwave to heat a bottle, a refrigerator, which I assumed had ice and a water cooler with hot and cold water, as well as cups. We changed our 2 yo son's diaper there, but stayed for about 15 minutes, just enjoying the quiet break from the walking and the heat. Thanks to Brian for this Notes: - Cool! COMPLIMENTS OF A
COMPLETE GUIDE TO WALT DISNEY WORLD Visit us on the web at http://www.guide2wdw.com Version 5.0 – Send me email at laura@guide2wdw.com with suggested changes! tip! A couple of years back a friend and I had gone to the Magic Kingdom on her birthday. We went to guest services to activate tickets we already had and found out that they will give you a birthday pin if you are there on your birthday. They also said that every park has their own birthday pins designated for the individual park. The one from the Magic Kingdom has Mickey Mouse in front of Cinderella's Castle and it reads quot;Today is My Birthday.quot; Everyone imaginable wished her a happy birthday and the barbershop quartet sang happy birthday to her. Each park does something special. We only discovered the Magic Kingdom end of it. Thanks to Jennifer for this tip! The only ride we were disappointed in was the Winnie-the Pooh ride in the Magic Kingdom. We'd read it was one that shouldn't be missed. When we got in line, the sign said the wait for the ride would be 45 minutes. It was more like an hour and a half and the ride lasted maybe 2 or 3 minutes!! My advice: skip it! The Buzz Lightyear Ride is much more fun!!!! The kids loved that one. Thanks to Kathy for this tip! A great place to watch the fireworks in the Magic Kingdom is from the dining terrace at the Plaza Pavilion. You get to sit in an uncrowded area with the added benefit of having Tinkerbell coming right at you! Send someone from your party to Main St to get pastries, ice cream, coffee, etc, to fill the time before and after the fireworks. Thanks to Chris for this tip!!! Ok, so you have no interest in waiting around to see a parade in the Magic Kingdom. But make sure you are in the area of the park you want to be when the parade starts. Traveling around the park especially on the parade route becomes next to IMPOSSIBLE. I was at the Haunted Mansion and needed to go to ride Splash Mountain because I had a fastpass, and it took me at least 20-30 minutes to make that short trip simply because of the parade. However if your not where you want to be, don't be afraid to cross the street during a parade, sure you may not be supposed to but if the crowds are so large they can't tell where you wander off after, this will allow you to get to your destination slightly faster than staying on the same side of the street and meandering along the sidewalk to go from one land to another. Thanks to Chris Shumeyko for this tip!!! Here's a great tip for riding the 3 Mountains! Get in line for the mountains later at night right before the parade and fireworks start, so probably around 7:30 the lines will die down somewhat because of people eating dinner and getting ready for the parade. Leave Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain for the night and ride Space Mountain during the day. This is a good plan because standing in line for Splash and Thunder can get HOT during the day where as Space Mountain has an indoor line which is air conditioned. This will pay off because there are no lines during Spectromagic and the Fireworks at night on any of the Mountains! So hit the smaller rides during the day and save the mountains for later at night! This really does save on time and you get more rides out of it! Thanks to Mark for this tip!!! During a parade - especially SpectroMagic - walk through the shops as much as possible. You can walk almost all of Main Street inside if you stay on the right hand side (right side as you are looking at the entrance). Thanks to Jennifer for this tip!!! I highly recommend if traveling to the Magic Kingdom with children under two years old going the month of October because crowds are small and the weather is not too hot. Thanks to Julio for this tip!!! Try to see Mickey somewhere else other than in the Judges Tent in Toontown. We were there in January and there were only about 15 people in front of us in line. We still waited about 15-20 minutes. Our kids were restless. Although we got pictures, it really wasn't worth the wait. Thanks to David for this tip!!! At the MK, don't sit in front of Cinderella's castle for the fireworks. They are shot from behind the castle, and Notes: - Cool! COMPLIMENTS OF A
COMPLETE GUIDE TO WALT DISNEY WORLD Visit us on the web at http://www.guide2wdw.com Version 5.0 – Send me email at laura@guide2wdw.com with suggested changes! you don't see much if you are in front. Thanks to Bobbie for this tip!!! Don't miss the new show Disney puts on in front of Cinderella's Castle. You will see about 2 dozens of Disney characters and after the short show they come down and walk around with the people there. Thanks to Miros for this tip!!! I just recently went to Disney World and I found that the best place to sit for the Spectromagic parade is on the balcony of the train station, right as you enter the park. Try to get there 2 hours before. People take the chairs and tables that are up there. If you sit there you can see the castle for the fireworks perfectly and also be able to watch the parade sitting in a chair and up high so you won’t have to over look anyone. Thanks to Larry for this tip!!! To get a curb seat for the SpectroMagic parade, you must line up 2 hours before. We lined up 1 ½ hrs before and couldn't find a curb seat. Thanks to Toni for this tip!!! We got to see the Magic Kingdom Parade in Frontier Land and that is where the parade started. It was wonderful and we had a great spot...my youngest daughter got to participate in the parade with one of the mice from Cinderella and that made her week. I don't know if it starts there every time but it did that day around 3 or 4 p.m. Tuesday seemed like a great day to visit the Magic Kingdom because on Monday it seemed like that is where everyone was headed. So I would wait until after Monday before visiting Magic Kingdom. Thanks to Robin for this tip!!! Right before closing of the Magic Kingdom (it was 9 the day we were there) about 8:45 we ran to the Judges tent where the characters are- not Mickey of course- but others. And there was no one there--no lines at all. There ended up being about 10 of us in there and all the characters! It was great. There was Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, Cinderella, Daisy & Perla, Chip & Dale and Minnie Mouse. And because no one was there they hung out all together and played with the kids. It was so neat! Tigger was doing Cart-Wheels and playing with my son (who got a little scared ). It was so neat. The don't close the doors till actual closing time so go anytime even a minute before you can still get in. We didn't want to stay too long as they all needed to go to bed, but it was really fun. Thanks to Diane for this tip! Do not visit the Magic Kingdom on a Monday. It is packed! This is especially true if you have children. Pushing a stroller through a jam-packed park can ruin anyone's day. On our last trip (3/00), we went to the Magic Kingdom on Monday with a 6 month old and a 2 yr. old. We were there all day and all we go to do was the Pooh ride, Bear Country Jamboree, Tiki Birds, Haunted Mansion, dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern (we had reservations), and the Electrical Parade (we caught it right after dinner). We pretty much wasted a whole day. Thanks to Christine for this tip! At the Magic Kingdom, get there early. Visit Space Mountain first. (Our wait was 20 min.) Then head straight to Splash Mountain. There was no wait at all and we walked right through! Thanks to Megan for this tip! Avoid using the restrooms near Fantasyland if you can help it. They are also packed, dirty and there are line- ups. Thanks to Anne for this tip! Get to the quot;Mountainsquot; early (Space/Splash/Thunder). The lines on these get long later on. If you plan to eat at the Liberty Tree Tavern, try and plan your dinner so that you are done 20 minutes before the Electric Light Parade starts; just step out onto the porch for a great view. Thanks to John and Karl for this tip! It seems that in space mountain the right line is the scarier side. The left side seems not as scary. Thanks to Notes: - Cool! COMPLETE GUIDE TO WALT DISNEY WORLD Visit us on the web at http://www.guide2wdw.com Version 5.0 – Send me email at laura@guide2wdw.com with suggested changes! Sandy for this tip! There is no need to push and shove once you are in an attraction. They only let enough people though the turn stall that will fit into the theater or ride. Every view is a good one and you will get a seat. Once you are in the first set of doors you will get a seat. So, on these types of attractions once your in, let everyone push by you. I sometimes stand alone in the back because everyone else is huddled together near the front and get a great view. Thanks to Jeremy for this tip! At the Magic Kingdom people leave early when the fireworks go off. During some parts of the year, the fireworks don't always go off at closing time. Since most people don't know that, they leave once the fireworks are over. This leaves the park empty until the real closing time. Thanks to Jeremy for this tip! When you are going to the parks, like the Magic Kingdom, get there about 30minutes before the park open. Why you should do this is because you will have time to ride all of your favorite rides before the crowds come. Especially the popular rides like Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain and the popular Space Mountain. Thanks to Marilyn for this tip! When everyone is leaving the Magic Kingdom the monorails tend to get very crowded. The Disney Staff will tell you to use the Transportation and Ticket Center monorail. It is always crowded. Use the resort monorail. This takes you to the Contemporary but stay on and you'll get to the transportation and ticket center a lot faster. Thanks to Evan for this tip! When entering the haunted mansion, make sure you are close to the left wall. This wall will open and you will have first access to the ride. Thanks to Sue for this tip! If you want to experience Splash Mountain but don't want to wait in line or use fast pass, just go to other rides until about 10:00pm or later then come back to it. My friends and I walked right through with no one in front of us and got on. Sure it was a little colder but worth it! Thanks to Ryan for this tip! When entering the Magic Kingdom while the 3:00 parade is going on, hop on the train and take it to Frontierland and you miss all the crowds leaving after the parade. Thanks to Susan for this tip! When arriving or departing from Magic Kingdom, you may be able to sit if the front car with the driver of the monorail, especially during the non-peak hours. Ask a CM when boarding the monorail. Depending on monorail driver, they may even let one of your children drive the monorail for a few seconds. Thanks to Kennith for the tip! E-ride nights. You get out of the park around 1:00 a.m. tired and ready to get to your room only to find the tram isn't in the parking lot to pick you up. One finally did arrive after 10 min. The driver got off for some reason with no explanation. We had to walk to our car It took us about 10 min. to get to our car and there was still no sight of the tram SO remember you may have to walk to your car on E-nights. Thanks to the Carr Family for this tip! If you are an old hat at Disney and would like a little twist, ride Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain at night. We hit Splash Mountain late one night because we were avoiding the long lines and wow it was gorgeous and a little mysterious too. Thanks to Sarah K. for this tip! Notes: - Cool! ADVENTURELAND ATTRACTIONS Jungle Cruise Ride Length: about 10 minutes Use Fastpass Here This attraction allows visitors to cruise down a Disney-made river touring places on four continents. Audio- Animatronics animals add to the excitement of the ride. While children will enjoy this ride, the jokes might be a little corny for older visitors. Pirates Of The Caribbean Ride Length: about 10 minutes This indoor boat ride follows a group of Audio-Animatronics pirates adventures. While a popular attraction at the Magic Kingdom, this ride might scare young children. Swiss Family Treehouse This attraction allows guests to walk through a recreation of the Swiss Family Treehouse. The detail in this attraction is amazing, but due to a lot of stair climbing, this attraction isn't for everyone. The Enchanted Tiki Room - Under New Management Show Length: about 10 minutes Before the renovation of this attraction, it was one of my least favorite shows at the park (I never wanted to hear the quot;Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Roomquot; song again). However, the show has been changed for the best. After taking a seat in the Tiki room, the birds begin the show just as before. However, Iago quickly interrupts them and asks them to stop singing that horrible song. With the help of Zazu, the show is very funny and great for the whole family. The Magic Carpets Of Aladdin This ride, which is very similar to the Dumbo attraction, consists of magic carpets that fly around a large Genie lamp. Visitors have control to move the carpets up and down and tilt them from side to side. Large camels near the attraction spit water onto the carpets as they fly by. Go to the door marked HP Invent show your id and get escorted behind the scenes and receive a fast pass for you and your family. The hours are 9-5 so don't miss out. Thanks to Tim4Kim for this tip! When choosing a spot to watch Illuminations be sure to take the wind into account. An open rail by the water is worthless if the wind is blowing in your face, all you'll see is smoke. Thanks to Jeff for this tip! What I really want to say is when you're at the World Showcase at EPCOT, explore every inch of every country. You'll find loads of fun things just off the beaten path. There is a little area kind of behind and below the pub in England which is a really great place to watch IllumiNations! Thanks to Jeff for this tip! If you are in EPCOT with children, I strongly suggest that you do not see HONEY I SHRUNK THE AUDIENCE. It is extremely scary and very intense for younger viewers. And don't be fooled, just because it is in the same pavilion as the IMAGINATION! attraction. Trust me, most younger kids will most definitely not enjoy HONEY I SHRUNK THE AUDIENCE. Thanks to BroadwayStar2 for this tip!!! At Epcot the fireworks at night time was wonderful, make sure that at you be a good viewing location by the water at least an hour for a good spot, it gets pretty crowded. The Tapestry parade is just before the firework, so if you find a good place around the in the world showcase to see both. The Disney map shows the parade route, so just stick around that path for both the fireworks and parade. Thanks to Gilberto for this tip!!! Parking tip: We went to Epcot in the afternoon. There were no parking guides to tell you where to park-cruise up to the front and see if anyone has left and grab a close spot. We went to Epcot between 3-4 two afternoons-and parked front row both times. This should work for all parks. Thanks to Ellen for this tip!!! In Epcot, the kids loved collecting stamps for every country visited. When we went there, they got to decorate a mask in Italy, and proceed to go to all the countries. It does take the whole day to do this, since there are a lot of things to see in each country. Thanks to Clarence for this tip!!! To really enjoy Epcot at its fullest do your best effort to catch the little shows they give outside of every quot;countryquot;. It totally enhances your experience and it helps a lot if you have little kids that don't really understand the concept of the World showcase, this way they get to see neat stuff and they can enjoy this park too. Grab a bottle from a gift shop (or from Wal-Mart) your first day in the park and head to the Igloo. Taste the different Coke varieties until you find one you like (my favorites are the apple (from Israel I think) and watermelon from China… and AVOID ITALY’S! J ) . Fill up your bottle with soda from there (as many times as you like) and you won’t have to pay for any your entire time at Epcot. One downside is that you won’t have any ice, but in Florida the ice melts quickly anyway, so you can probably go up to any of the cafeterias and ask them for a cup of ice if you so desire. Thanks to Heather for this tip!!! If you are spending time in another park and want to watch the fireworks in EPCOT, drive to the Boardwalk (if you are not driving, take the bus there). Park in the visitor parking area and walk to the World Showcase entrance (pretty short walk). When you get into the park, head for the Bridge near France. Even if you don't get a spot on the railing, you can see most of the show because you are slightly elevated. When the fireworks are over, head back to the boardwalk and you beat all the crowds heading back to the EPCOT Parking lot/Monorail. Grab a snack on the Boardwalk. The Beach Club has a great Ice Cream Shop called quot;Beaches and Creamquot;...awesome!!! Try the kitchen sink or the Reeses Pieces Sundae. Thanks to Sam for this tip!!! The most delightful tea shoppe exists in Britain (by Rose & Crown) at EPCOT. Don't miss the imported crackers & cookies, and candy! You'll also find fun tea accessories (like cutting boards and aprons), and some really nice (reasonable) jewelry... nice souvenirs that don't scream WDW. Thanks to Sam for this tip! When attempting to find a good location to view Illuminations: Reflections of Earth at Epcot's Showcase, some sources recommend snagging a lagoon side table at the Rose & Crown Pub in the United Kingdom pavilion. If you should decide to follow this advice, be prepared to eat more than just an appetizer. Epcot staff are fully aware of this tip and will only seat patrons who intend to eat a full meal. Thanks to Andrea for this tip! Go to the World Showcase as soon as it opens at 11:00 a.m. Finish Future World in the late afternoon. We like to only eat in the Epcot country restaurants, but after our first trip discovered how expensive it was to have dinner there. Now we have a late lunch, we try and book the last lunch seating. You get a large portion of food at about half the price, Then in the evening we just grab a snack or eat after we leave the park. It has saved us a lot of money on our trips. Thanks to Patti for this tip! Your kids will probably like Future World better than the World Showcase. The best place to view the fireworks/laser show is the pavillon between Mexico and Canada (right between the two stores). But get there early, because it fills up completely. An excellent place for lunch is to buy the Fish and Chips in the United Kingdom -- but don't go in the Rose and Crown Pub. Try the food stand located right next to it (towards France). When going on the new attraction at Epcot Center - Test Track, choose to go as a single rider, this will allow you to get onto the attraction faster than those who go in pairs. Thanks to Paul for this tip! On the Norway boat ride Maelstrom, Get in the front of the line after getting off the boat. Then when they let you in the theatre you can follow the last group of movie viewers out of the theatre. This saves you the incredibly boring video! Thanks to Gabe for this tip! EPCOT has a board between the Innoventions plazas that offers the wait times for each ride in both the Future and World showcase. Notes: - Cool! One show to sit up front on is The American Adventure. Everyone will push for the middle. But the best seat is front and center. You will see every movement and expression made by the characters, and the movie potions are near the back of the quot;stagequot;. No one will be around you. Thanks to Jeremy for this tip! If the line for test track is long, and your party doesn't mind being separated, go through the singles line, you all go through the pre show together, and when it is time to get on a car, they fill you in one by one into the empty 3rd seat when 2 people sit. On New Years Eve 1999, we walked right up to the pre show and were on the ride in 10 minutes even though the fast passes were already all gone for the day, and the line was 1 1/2 hours. Sitting in different cars (usually one behind the other) was a small price to pay for this time-saver! Thanks to Laura for this tip! FUTURE WORLD ATTRACTIONS Spaceship Earth Spaceship Earth Ride Ride Length: 16 minutes Inside the Spaceship Earth geosphere, explore the history of communication while traveling in quot;time-travelquot; vehicles. The ride starts with ancient Egypt and ends with the near future. Tip - Lines for this ride are long in the morning, so wait until the evening for this ride. Leave a Legacy This large sculpture is covered in steel tiles that showcase visitors to Epcot. Add your picture for $35 for a one image tile and $38 for a two images tile. Universe of Energy Ellen’s Energy Adventure Ride Length: 45 minutes (shows start every 17 minutes) The entertaining pre-show is Disney's version of Jeopardy. Hosted by Alex Trebek, this version of Jeopardy is all about energy. The contestants consist of Ellen Degeneres, Jamie Lee Curtis (Ellen's college rival), and Albert Einstein. Ellen is losing and needs a lesson in energy, so Bill Nye steps in to help where your ride begins. Wonders of Life Cranium Command Show Length: 18 minutes This entertaining show follows a day in the life of Buzzy as he makes his first attempt as a brain pilot. Buzzy's mission is to help a 12-year-old boy, Bobby, make it through typical day of junior high school. Body Wars Height restriction: 40 inches Ride Length: 5 minutes Similar to Star Tours (MGM), this motion simulator ride quot;shrinksquot; guests to the size of a blood cell in order to travel inside the human body to see the effects of a splinter in skin. The Making of Me Show Length: 15 minutes Hosted by Martin Short, this film is about human reproduction. Notes: - Cool! Test Track Test Track Height Restriction: 40 inches Use Fastpass or Single Rider Here Ride Length: 5 minutes General Motors presents this ride featuring a simulation of what it would feel like to ride a car as it goes through a standard test track. The ride has twists and turns, goes through hot and cold weather, and reaches speeds of over 60 mph! This is a great ride, and not too intense for the light of heart. Tip - Due to popular demand, be sure to get a Fastpass early in the morning. Fairly often, Test Track is out of Fastpasses by early afternoon. Tip - Use the single rider line to avoid long wait times. Ice Station Cool Hot and thirsty? Walk through this air-conditioned covered area and cool off. At the end, there is a room where you can sample coke products from around the world. Journey Into Imagination Honey, I Shrunk The Audience Use Fastpass Here Show Length: 20 minutes Just as Dr. Wayne Szalinski is about to receive the Inventor of the Year Award for his shrinking machine, an accident occurs and instead of demonstrating how to shrink luggage, Szalinski shrinks the audience. This 3-D show might be too intense for some who do not like snakes, lions, or mice. Journey Into Imagination With Figment Ride Length: about 12 minutes Figment has returned! Ride with Figment through the senses of sight, smell, and sound. Visit Doctor Channing's brightly colored, yet predictable, labs as Figment cautions him to set his imagination free. MGM TIPS FOR MGM Get to MGM Studio's before the park actually opens. Before they let the rope go down, they make it clear on which Cast Member is the leader to Tower of Terror and which is the leader to Rock N Roller Coaster. Everyone usually goes to Tower of Terror, so go to Rock N Roller Coaster first. When we went, my dad and I were 2 of the 3 people on their way to the ride. We got to be in the front seat on the first ride of the day. When your done, ride it again. Everyone will still be over at Tower of Terror. When your finished with your second ride, everyone will be done with Tower of Terror and be on their way to Rock N Roller Coaster, so the line will be shorter on Tower of Terror. Thanks to Gabriella for this tip! When going to see Muppets 3D at MGM, work your way down to the bottom (lower) waiting area. You still get a good view of the pre-show and when you enter the theater, you are sitting closer to the screen and you get to enjoy more of the special effects. But when the doors open to enter the theater, let few people go in front of you. The first people in have to move all the way across and this will leave you a seat in the middle.........good luck. Thanks to Mark for this tip! When I visited Disney last year, I purchased the meal and show of Fantasmic, I went to eat at Mama Melrose, it was great... but when we got out to go to the show, it started to rain and the show was cancelled. I was disappointed because we had spend so much on the meal and reserved sittings at the show. The next day, I went back to the restaurant and talked to the manager and they gave us more tickets to go see the show. So if you are nice and go back you can get more tickets. Of course you have to be there at least a few days. Thanks to Nathalie for this tip! If you want to ride both Rock N’ Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror, get a fastpass for Rock N’ Roller Coaster and then get in the standby line for Tower of Terror (or vice-versa). You can ride the two biggest attractions in less than an hour! Thanks to Sean for this tip!!! If you are in the MGM arrive half hour before the parade start an go in front of the Mickey hat to get a nice place to see it, just look for the handicap area and you will see when the characters come and go. When the parade finish walk after them and go directly to the last show of Beauty and the beast. Thanks to Francisco for this tip!!! Do not miss for any reason riding the Tower of Terror. I am afraid of heights but this ride is so amazing you MUST do it. It doesn't feel in your stomach like the falls in a roller coaster, it just feels amazing, like floating. I guarantee that you will enjoy it and it won't hurt a bit. Trust me! Thanks to Miros for this tip!!! When you first get to MGM, you need to ride the Tower of Terror and Aerosmith's Rock N Roller Coaster first. The lines get long fast plus both rides are close to each other so ride one and go ride the other quick. Thanks to Robin for this tip!!! At MGM, the newly-remodeled 50's Prime Time Cafe -- made of small retro kitchen settings with tv's showing our fave sitcoms of the day -- was awesome! Fabulous service by our quot;cousinsquot;, lots of Mom's rules to follow, comradory among each kitchen's guests, and really, really good food. Try the chicken pot pie and S'mores dessert! Priority reservations highly recommended. Thanks to Sam for this tip! The personalized name tags a writer submitted are at the 5&10 at MGM ($5 and so much fun to wear!). They don't have every name pre-imprinted, of course, but you can get the tags specially made. There are blanks Notes: - Cool! Thanks to Sam for this tip! It takes a long time to get into Fantasmic but if you eat at one of the 3 restaurants (Brown Derby, Mama Melrose) located in the MGM Map they offer Priority Seating for the show so you don't have to wait in the line to see the show (which was worth it if you don't have to wait for 2 hours beforehand). Thanks to Michelle for this tip! Halfway up Hollywood Boulevard (the main street) on the right is a board containing up to date ride wait time information. If you sit in the back on the Rock N' Roller Coaster it is a lot rougher than if you sit towards the front. Thanks to Moliphino for this tip! In Tower of Terror (Disney Studios) when you enter the first staging room (the library), immediately go to the far corner (furthest away from the door you enter the room in). After the TV presentation, the wall opens up there to the rest of the ride. At that point, choose the left line - it's quicker. On the Backlot Studios Tour, if you don't want to get wet, sit on the right when you load the trams. In the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, don't sit too close to the stage because it takes away from the show. Get a copy of the MGM Studio map. Turn the map up-side-down, and you will notice the face of Mickey Mouse. Thanks to Paul for this tip! When you ride the Rock and Roller Coaster, if you want to try to sit in the front car, get in line on the right side. (There will be two lines). Thanks to Chris for this tip! At the Star Tours Attraction, the further back in the spacecraft you are, the rougher the ride. Last year my 13 year old daughter and I bought personalized quot;Guest of Honorquot; pins at one of the MGM stores on Hollywood Boulevard that sells customized hats, mugs, etc. (I've attached a picture.) We wore them every day of our visit this year (9/29/00 - 10/5/00) and the reaction was AMAZING! Yes, Cast Members are already friendly and personable, but if you want EXTRA attention and interaction, WEAR ONE OF THESE PINS! Our server at our Chef Mickey's Character Breakfast called us by name from the start and wanted to know why my husband didn't have a name tag. (They don't sell quot;Dalequot; name tags - or quot;Chipquot; either - go figure.) Several characters including Ariel and Mickey Mouse signed my daughter's autograph book quot;To Christinequot; and that's pretty cool given that Mickey doesn't talk! Everywhere we went - rides, shows, food stops - we got quot;Hello, Brenda and Christinequot; and extra attention. I have two theories about why. One is that maybe they thought we were visiting Cast Members, the other is that wearing these pins made it clear that we were truly in the quot;we're ready for fun at WDWquot; mode. Whatever the reason, these pins were the best $3 investments we could have made for making a great visit even better. Thanks for Brenda for this tip! ECHO LAKE AREA ATTRACTIONS Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular Use Fastpass Here Show Length: 30 minutes The show begins with one of the cast members picking audience members (age 18 and up) to be part of the show. Sounds Dangerous Show Length: 12 minutes This show, starring by Drew Carey, takes place in the complete darkness (might scare small children). Carey plays a cop on the new show Undercover Live. The audience follows Carey as he attempts to find a diamond smuggler. While the show has entertaining parts, I wouldn't wait more than 10 minutes to see this show. Star Tours Height Restrictions: 40 inches Use Fastpass Here Ride Length: 10 minutes Visitors are boarded into 40-person motion simulator spacecrafts to visit Endor. Once on board, passengers find out that this trip will be their pilot's first time flying alone. The new pilot has several close calls and almost crashes into several objects. Inspired by the Star Wars movie, this ride will shake and rock you, so if you have motion sickness, this isn't the ride for you. Tip - The further back in the spacecraft you are, the rougher the ride. SUNSET BOULEVARD AREA ATTRACTIONS Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage Show Length: 30 minutes This show brings to life an abridged version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The show performs such songs as quot;Be Our Guestquot;, quot;Beauty and the Beastquot;, and quot;Bellequot;. After the fight scene around the castle, the beast is transformed into a prince. The show is very entertaining and the elaborate costumes make the show one of the best at the park. Rock N Roller Coaster Height Restriction: 48quot; Use Fastpass Here Located right next to the Tower of Terror, Rock N Roller Coaster is a thrill seekers dream! The idea is that the Aerosmith fans need to take the fastest route to get to the concert on time (as the manager says, quot;Get the stretched limo, no, better make that the super stretched limoquot;). Riders are then loaded into their limousines (with Aerosmith music playing) and sent off into the dark. The coaster contains a double loop at the beginning and a corkscrew turn in the middle. This ride is one of the most intense rides in Walt Disney World. Tip - If you sit in the back, it is a lot rougher than if you sit towards the front. Tip - When you ride the Rock and Roller Coaster, if you want to try to sit in the front car, get in line on the right side. (There will be two lines). The Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror Height Restriction: 40quot; Use Fastpass Here This attraction is set in the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Once inside the hotel, be sure to look around - the detail of the lobby is amazing. From there, visitors are sent into the library for a pre-show. Tip - once in the library, move to the opposite corner you entered. This door will open into the basement where you will be loaded into the elevator. Tip - In the basement, go to the left line - it's quicker. Once loaded into the elevator, the elevator travels through the hotel. Before dropping (three time total), the elevator is brought to the front of the hotel where a door opens allowing passengers to have a bird's eye view of the park. Notes: - Cool! Fantasmic Show length: 25 minutes Disney recommends getting to this show at least an hour ahead of time. This show takes place at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater. The show basically consists of a water pageant with fireworks and music. Each float contains different Disney characters. While some people love this show, I felt that the show didn't follow a natural progression. Most people probably want to see this show once, but I have no desire to go back due to the long wait and crowds. HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD AREA ATTRACTIONS The Great Movie Ride Ride Length: about 22 minutes This ride, set in Mann's Chinese Theater, travels through the greatest movies ever made. Movies like quot; The Wizard of Ozquot;, quot;Mary Poppinsquot;, and quot;Aliensquot; are brought to life with Audio-Animatronics Characters. In the middle of the ride, a violent life-action scene takes place that might scare small children. The ride concludes with clips from several different movies. MICKEY AVENUE AREA ATTRACTION Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour Tour Length: 35 Minutes The tour starts with a demonstration on the creation of storm scenes in movies (audience participation is requested). Next, visitors are loaded onto trams (sit on the right if you don't want to get wet) and are driven past sights including the homes from Golden Girls and Empty Nest (Interesting fact - The homes are only partial structures, shown later in the tour). Next stop on the tour is Catastrophe Canyon - the highlight of the tour - where the Canyon is set on fire (those sitting on the left will get wet and be closest to the flames) and then is put out, showing how filmmakers create disaster scenes. Afterwards, the tram drives by New York Street to demonstrate the illusion of a three- dimensional street with a one-dimensional set. Contestants compete against the other 599 people in the audience for a chance in the hot seat. There are two ways to get in the hot seat - fastest finger (done once at the beginning of each show) and by earning the most points (playing along in your seat). Once in the hot seat, contestants have three life lines - 50/50, ask the audience, and ask a complete stranger. Players earn points, which earn them prizes (pins and hats at the lower end).
