Answer in min of 5 sentences. Select one (1) composition by Tchaikovsky that you enjoy. Describe the music and subject matter of that work and explain why you enjoy it. Explain the key reasons you believe that compositions by Tchaikovsky continue to be popular with contemporary orchestras and audiences. The French writer, Émile Zola, claimed that the Impressionists were selling sketches that are hardly dry. Identify an example of an Impressionist painting that represents Zola’s description. What are the reasons you think Impressionism was such an important movement in arts? Select two (2) paintings depicting females by both a male artist and female artist named within the Explore section. Compare and contrast these two (2) depictions of women, and comment on any general tendencies that you detect among artists of that era Respond to peers post: Pyotr llyich Tchaikovsky,Impressionism, and Women in Art:I selected Swan Lake ballets. Once dancers began dancing (en point e) their costumes began to accentuate their forms, tightly clinging to their bodies, in 1876 Swan lake provided music for sinuous choreography of the dancers. Swan Lake scenario initially in four acts, was fashioned from Russian folk tales and tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcer's curse, the ballets haven't been change in to days world the ballets fashioned and dancers steel remains popular with contemporary orchestras and audiences an eye catcher after 200 years. Renoir's the luncheon of the boating party: Emile Zola had criticized the salon of 1880 for the simplicity of the painting which ,he and others thought, seemed to look more like sketches, than finished painting and challenged the impressionist to create works that were complex and thoughtful. Renoir"s reintroduces outline and detail to capture the human figures depicted in the picture, the broad quick techniques, typical of Monet and others impressionist artists, one consigned to the background of the painting while the precision of the foreground objects eliminate any possible criticism that this painting might be an underdeveloped sketch. Depicting painting females by both male artist and female artist: I chose Judith and Holoferne by Artemisia Gentilesehi and Hans von Achen. Artemisia also painted self portrait she had color in her portrait. The years between 1900 and 1913 represent an extremely turbulent historical moment. Women's fashion is often said to mirror closely the spirit of the times. Technology was a huge force of change during this times, as the Industrial age kicked in. This was a time of transition and progress; although the world was rapidly changing, people still held ideals of womanly beauty and clothing trends reflected that.

Impressionism made use of the whole-tone scale. It also applied suggested, rather than depicted, reality. It created a mood rather than a definite picture. It had a translucent and hazy texture; lacking a dominant-tonic relationship. It made use of overlapping chords, with 4th, 5th, octaves, and 9th intervals, resulting in a non-traditional harmonic order and resolution.

Art of Your Choice Template Each week in our Weekly Discussion, we ask you to select a work of art, architecture, music, or writing/performance art that you want to highlight. In the first week, we ask you to do this with something you already know and like and it can come from any period including the here and now. Include an image of the art, architecture, or the title of the poem, work of writing or music you choose each week, followed by the name of who created it, the year it was created, and why you like it. In the following weeks, we will ask you to choose from the work being created during the time period we are studying that week. This week's readings mention several musical compositions. Here you'll find background and a description of each—and the link to a video of the piece. Jean-Baptiste Lully: Armide , Act 2, " Enfin, il est en ma puissance " ("At last, he is in my power"). An English translation of the lyrics . Jean-Baptiste Lully composed the opera Armide in the late 1600s, during the reign of Louis XIV. Armide (Armida) is the main character. She lives in the Muslim culture and is variously described as a sorceress, an enchantress, and a witch. She has been asked to thwart the efforts of the crusader knight Renaud, even murder him. She does succeed in casting a spell on him, but finds that she also has fallen in love with him, so following through with murder seems impossible. She approaches to do the deed, which is the setting for this song from the end of Act II of the opera. The story itself was based on a fictional epic poem of the 1500s. Elizabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre: Pieces de Clavecin ("Pieces for the Harpsichord"). This female composer and musician had performed in the court of Louis XIV since the age of five. This composition was for a dance. Note the sound of the harpsichord ( clavecin ), precursor to the modern piano. Henry Purcell: Dido and Aeneas , " Dido’s Lament ." An English translation of the lyrics . "Dido's Lament," from Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas, is also called "When I am laid in earth." The story it relates is from Book 4 of the ancient epic poem by Vergil, The Aeneid . Dido, the Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, the warrior prince from ancient Troy, had fallen in love. But Aeneas was determined to fulfill his duty and divine destiny and go to Italy to found a new kingdom (that eventually becomes Rome). Aeneas is pulled by duty and destiny, and as queen, Dido cannot leave Carthage with him. In anguish because of his departure, she makes arrangements to put herself to death on a funeral pyre. Thus, the lament. "Dido's Lament" is one aria in Dido and Aeneas . George Frideric Handel: Messiah , " Hallelujah Chorus ." This famous chorus is part of the renowned oratorio called Messiah . Chapter 23 describes the term oratorio and note how it differs from opera . Handel took the common Christian approach and understanding of scriptures as pre.
