Mass digitization initiatives are increasing access to print collections by digitizing materials at large scale. This benefits libraries by extending the "long tail" of their collections and reducing storage and access costs for less popular items. While mass digitization will cover popular works, local digitization allows libraries to focus on distinct collections and provide higher quality access. Digitization overall increases the value of print collections by improving discovery and access.
