The Y Today The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA operates its over 65 programs at 3 Facilities inc. 40 acre woods, 2.5 acre property, 1 rented building, and gymnasiums and athletic fields through out the region.
Why a New Y?
PROBLEM #1: 40% of 7th graders can’t swim 25 yards to save their life or the life of a friend. SOLUTION: The New Y! IMPACT: 2,000 kids in the five county region will learn to swim each year at the New Y!
PROBLEM #2: There is NO family oriented full-service recreational facility in our entire five county region. SOLUTION: The New Y! Leelanau: 921 users Antrim: 728 users Grand Traverse: 12,814 users Kalkaska: 728 users Benzie: 669 users Other: 2,341 users IMPACT: 4,000 additional members and  		     program users from throughout the 		     region will enjoy the New Y!
PROBLEM #3: Throughout our region, there is a lack of affordable quality year round day care. SOLUTION: The New Y! IMPACT: 80 additional families will have their  	     day care needs met at the New Y!
PROBLEM #4: Youth obesity is on the rise, and regional health is on the decline. SOLUTION: The New Y! IMPACT: 1,000 families from the five county region will enjoy new health & fitness services at the New Y!
PROBLEM #5: Teens need a fun, safe, positive place to grow. SOLUTION: The New Y! IMPACT: 1,000 additional teens from the 		     Grand Traverse Region will have a 		     place of their own at the New Y!
PROBLEM #6: There is NO regional facility where everyone is welcome, regardless of ability to pay. SOLUTION: The New Y! Every kid deserves a Y! IMPACT: 1,000 additional families will benefit from our “No One Denied” financial assistance policy at the New Y!
175,000 sq.ft., $25.5 million master plan to be built as donations are given.
Essential Phase Exterior Concept drawing from view of Meijer Athletic Fields October 2009 Essential phase = $14.5 million for 89,900 sq. ft.
Construction is complete on the athletic fields at the future site of the new Grand Traverse Bay YMCA on 3700 Silver Lake Road in Garfield Township. New electronic sign installed and working.
