This presentation aims at creating awareness among people about blood donation and some informations.

2. Blood is the life-maintaining fluid that
circulates through the body's:
 Heart
 arteries
 veins
 capillaries

3.  Blood carries the following to the body tissues:
 nourishment
 electrolytes
 hormones
 vitamins
 antibodies
 heat
 oxygen
 Blood carries the following away from the body
tissues:
 waste matter
 carbon dioxide

4.  Human blood consists of about 22 percent solids and 78 percent
water. The components of human blood are:
 Plasma, in which the blood cells are suspended, including:
red blood cells (erythrocytes)
white blood cells (leukocytes) –
 Types of white blood cells: lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils,
basophils, neutrophils (granulocytes
 platelets (throbocytes) - help in blood clotting.
 Fat globules
 Chemical substances:
 Carbohydrates, proteins, hormones
 Gases:
 oxygen ,carbon dioxide, nitrogen

5. 1. Determine if you are eligible to donate blood:
Age: between 18 to 60 years.
Body Weight: 45 kg and above.
2. Following a blood donation, drink an extra four
glasses of non-alcoholic liquids or fruit juices or
normal water, because you might experience
dizziness or loss of strength.
3. Eat a full meal within a few hours of donating
blood.
4. Do not take alcohol within a few hours of giving
blood because alcohol dilates the blood vessels.

6. 5. Avoid fatty foods for twenty-four hours before you donate.
6. Nervousness can also cause your blood pressure to drop and
can lead to dizziness.
7. If you feel faint, tell the medical staff, and they will assist you
into a reclining position on the chair.

7. 1. No person shall donate blood and no blood bank shall draw
blood from a person, more than once in three months.
2. The donor shall be in good health, mentally alert and
physically fit and shall not be inmates of jail and drug-
addicts.
3. The donors shall fulfill the following requirements, namely :-
(a) the donor shall be in the age group of 18 to 60 years.
(b) the donor shall not be less than 45 kilograms;
(c) temperature and Pulse of the donor shall be normal;
(d) the systolic and diastolic blood pressures are within normal
limits without medication;

8. (g) the donor shall be free from any skin diseases at the site of
phlebotomy ;
(h) the donor shall be free from any disease transmissible by blood
transfusion, insofar as can be determined by history and examination
indicated above;
(i) the arms and forearms of the donor shall be free from skin
punctures or scars indicative of professional blood donors or
addiction of self injected narcotics.
(e) haemoglobin which shall not be less than 12.5 grams;
(f) the donor shall be free from acute respiratory diseases;
