Dragon age inquisition
Game World
The world of dragon age is huge. But it’s not one
big, its multiple different maps, the reason for this
is because there world is so vast and large that
putting that putting one big map in would be too
much, also the locations of these maps are to far
apart it connect them. This also gives a feel for how
big the dragon age world is.
There is a lot of architecture in the world, which
makes it look like a living breathing world and
thanks to the graphics there look real. The
architecture is also sometimes used as an invisible
wall which gives the elution of an open world.
Objects are quite simplistic, you can’t interact with
much in the world unless it’s a mission, but you can
loot chests, draws, plants and dead bodies, to find
weapons, crafting materials or artefacts.
Characters
There are thousands of characters in this game, to make the world feel real
and immersive.
There are up to ten different characters to play as in the game and you can
play as them when ever you want, this includes your own created character
which you can create at the start of the game. The goal of your character is to
defeat the main bad guy and save the world, and to do this your character
becomes the inquisitor. When you go on mission you get the option to pick
three additional characters to accompany your character, so you always have
some playable characters at your side.
There are far to many non playable characters to list, but the most important
ones are your advisers and the main bad guy. Your advisers are there to give
you advise in there specific areas on how to be the inquisitor, you can also
send them out to do small missions. The main bad guys are corypheus and his
dragon who you have to stop from destroying the world.
Perspectives
Dragon age is a third person game, the reason for this is so you
can see who your playing as because you can change your
character. And it has 3D graphics so you can move where ever
you want. The 3D graphics help to immerse you into the world,
and make it look real because if it was 2D it would look boring
and flat. A perspective on a game can change the feel of a game,
for instance a first person angle makes you feel like your that
character, but a third person angle makes you feel like your
watching that characters journey.
Cutscenes
The cut scenes are what this game is know for, it tries
to make you feel like your character is in a movie,
because there not just boring bits of dialog, some
contain action and fights. And almost all the cut scenes
are interactive, so you chose different dialog options or
actions, most of, if not all there story is told through
the cut scenes. The cut scenes are extremely well done,
creating great cinematics for the audience to enjoy.
Avatar
You create your character at the start of the game and from then
on he/she is the main character of the game, so he/she is
featured in every cut scene. You can be a human, elf, dwarf or
qunari, and what ever species you pick the dialog will change to
suit that character, and other characters will act differently
around you. But no matter what character you create the
narrative will stay the same.
Type of game
The type of game is a single player story driven game,
there is a multiplayer mode, but the main game is a
single player. So because it’s a single player your in no
competitions with other players, so you can take your
own time to complete the game, which is why side
quest are there, to fill up free time.
Narrative
The story of the game is, mages and Templars meet up to make peace between each
other after there civil war. However, a huge explosion kills almost everyone at the
meet up and it’s unknown what caused it. One of the survivors of the explosion is you
(your created character) You wake up with amnesia and a strange glowing mark on
your. You are captured and interrogated by local authorities, you find out that the
explosion has caused a huge rift which is bring demons into the world, you also find
out that your mark has the power to close the rift, through multiple choices you
gather an army, pick either mages or Templars to help you, and reform the inquisition.
With the help you have gathered you then go and seal the rift, but the enemy who
caused the rift comes and attacks you and your army. This is when the real story gets
under way. You become the leader of the inquisition, find a new castle to live in, make
alliances, gain land, and basically build your self up to fight the main enemy at the
end.
However through choices the narrative can change slightly not enough to completely
change the story but it might tweak it slightly.
Game setting
The game is set in Thedas which is a fictional continent.
There is no confirmed date because the world is
fictional, however it is based off the medieval age, we
know this from type of weapons they use, and the type
of cloths they wear.
Goals and rewards
There goals of the game vary but there simplistic, you
get objectives such as, find evidence, or kill the dragon,
but at the end of every mission objective you get a
reward, sometimes the reward is good and sometimes
its not. The most common objective in the game is to
kill enemies so you’ve always got to prepare.
Rules of the game
There are a lot of rules in the game for instance you
can’t fly because it would make the game super easy.
You can’t buy of craft the greatest item in the game at
the start of the game.
Difficulty
The games difficulties are, casual, normal, hard and
nightmare, this allows players to decide weather they
want to enjoy the story of the game or if they just want
a challenge.
Inventory
There are so many items to collect in the game from
weapons and armor, to herbs and metals. You can
collect crafting materials to craft weapons and armor,
which some players believes is the best way to play the
game.
Graphics
The graphics are photo realistic to better immerse you in the
game. It also fits with the type of genre of the game. Also
graphic are the first thing the audience notices so having really
good graphics can bring a bigger audience, which is what
happened to dragon age inquisition.
Addiction
VGA is where a user over plays games, which interferes with there everyday
lives. They lose touch of reality and create a new in the video game world. VGA
can be brought on because of the drive to completion, usually in video games
you will get a goal and if you complete that goal you will get a reward, this is
what fuels the addiction, the feeling of completion and getting the reward.
The types of games that usually cause VGA are multiplayer game, because they
often have the most rewards, and there's no real end to them you can play for
as long as you want, because the developers will keep updating it.
The addiction isn’t just caused through rewards, but also because of the
freedom that the games offer, in the real world you can’t do what ever you
want, but in the video game world you can, For example Grand theft auto has a
huge open world with so much to do.

The game interface is simple, it shows the companions
that are with you, there health and your health, your
mission objective and your abilities, this is done so that
it is easily accessible.

which makes it eye catching and it sort of describes
what the game is about, by showing that you have a
power.
audio
The games audio isn’t realistic which fits the
genre well, for instance when you jump or sprint
it makes a sound or when you use a spell it will
make a sound. The sound track can change
through scenery and action, for instance if you
get into a fight the music gets fast pace, but if
your just taking a stroll through the woods the
music is peaceful.
Comparing
Compare dragon age inquisition to the other dragon ages you
can see that the graphics have improved massively. Colour was
the biggest change, dragon age 1 and 2 had dull colours but
inquisition added way more colour. Graphic might be the most
important feature of a video game, because dragon age
inquisition gained a huge audience for the dragon age sieres.
