Jens Danielsen is a 45-year-old hunter from Qaanaaq, Greenland who hunts with his dog sled team. He notes that travelling across the sea ice has become more dangerous as the ice gets thinner and less stable each year due to climate change. If the climate changes further, disappearing sea ice will make their situation more dire. During their conversation, Jens tells the photographer that dogs are an integral part of their community as they depend on hunting but some hunters have had to shoot dogs when they've been unable to provide them food. He acknowledges that climate change is playing a role in the problems they now face.

Last days of the Ice hunters?
(taken from National Geographic, January 2006 by Gretel Ehrlich)
Part A

ice that gets thinner and less stable each year. Out
here he´s always found game for his family – until
now. The problem: the ice is disappearing.
Jens Danielsen´s kneels on his dogsled as it bumps
through the glinting ruins of a frozen sea. “Harru,

emergency. The fifteen dogs in his team move slowly,
picking their way between lanes of open water and translucent ice. Despite bitter cold in
late March, the ice pans have cracked, making travel dangerous.
