3. Mise-en-scene
Hair, costume, make-up and performance
The female character is wearing dark and dull clothing such as
grey, blacks and navy this connotes that the narrative of the film is
dark as it immediately connotes the genre of the film being mystery
and thriller.
The make-up of the female character we are introduced to is tired
looking which is suggested by her dark circles, pale and dull skin.
This signifies that she is someone who doesn't take much care of
herself or her appearance perhaps this is due to a dark event that
has taken place in her life. Furthermore, her hair is also untidy and
messy this supports our idea of this character.
At the beginning through a medium shot we firstly see her in a
motorbike costume with her helmet and leather jacket. Her body
language with her back up straight, gripped onto the handles as she
drives through a busy city, suggests that she is confident with
driving a motorbike. Motorbikes are stereotypically known as a
4. Location
■ In the very first shot through the use of a
medium tracking shot of the female driving the
motorbike, we are able to see that the film is set
in an urban setting with tall block buildings, bright
shop banners, signs, cars and buses. The next
key location we see is white house with trees and
branches over grown covering the front of the
house, in the distance there is greenery, perhaps
the location of this house is in an urban setting.
The overgrown branches and un-swept leaves
suggest that the house is not looked after and
abandoned. These settings are a convention of a
thriller genre.

5. Camera angles and Movements
■ There are various different angles and movements used. The use
of long shots establish the setting and location. There are also a
range of camera movements like tracking shot, and angles/shots
like close-ups, medium close up etc.
Sound effects
■ There is a range of both diegetic and non diegetic sounds.
Diegetic bridge sound of voice over dialogue of the female
character is used at the beginning. This is used to give the
audience an insight about the narrative of the film. There is also
a use of ambient sound of a drop within the sound track which is
synchronised as the women shivers. This is highly effective as it
suggests the fear and emotion to the audience. The high climax
and build up of the sound effects are highly effective as it
heightens each time titles appear, attracting the audience attention
more and more each time.

6. Titles
■ At the beginning the logo of IFC Films is given, being the
film production and distribution company of the film.
■ The titles include quotes from film critics for example; 'A
DASH OF PURE HITCHCOCKIAN BRILLIANCE - The
Guardian' This is typical of films that are not produced and
distributed by large well known companies like Universal and
Warner Bros or feature big Hollywood actresses. Therefore,
films like this are rely on film critics to review the film in
order to attract the audience to see the film in the cinema
after release.
■ The title of the film is given at the very end of the teaser,
this is done to make the release date remembered.
