Custom territories
We’re going to talk about Quickbooks
Here’s the desktop version of Quickbooks,
We’re using Larry's Landscaping & Garden Supply which is one of the sample QB file
Tableau connects to Quickbooks online, not the desktop version of Quickbooks so you’re going to have to export the file to QB online.
To get started you’re going to probably need a Desktop version and an Online account. Although the Desktop is optional if you’re only using QB online. Sign in with your username and password and QB online will tell you when the data has been uploaded.
Quickbooks online is a world class User interface designed for ease of use. But there are limitations which is why you want to connect it to Tableau.
After the data has been exported to quickbooks online – which will take 5 mins or so
Click on the ‘quickbooks online’ to connect from Tableau
Sign in again
Choose the sample file
Then authorise Tableau to see the Quickbooks data
Once connected, we can see 4 tables, Accounts, Payments, Sales and Expenses and finally Sales and Expenses with line items. Let’s look at the data in the tables.
Find out who your best Customers are using a treemap
Chose Payments table and then add ‘total amount’ measure and ’customer name’ dimension
Click on show me and choose treemap
Could also filter on ’transaction date’ – drag to filter and choose 2018
Drill down and show transactions
SHOW!!!
Find out where you’re spending your money
Choose Sales and Expenses table
Choose Total Amount Measure
Choose Assosciated Entity Name for Customer name
Filter on Transaction Type = Purchase
SHOW!!!
Then add a filter for Associated Entity Type = Vendor to exclude employees
Change using Show Me
SHOW!!
So what can the Tableau experts create?
Took this from the public.tableau.com
Hard to see the data on Quickbooks online
Cross join with other databases
Flexibility of queries
