1. What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
2. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
These are some examples of software I have used to produce
my music magazine.
I used
-Adobe Photoshop
-Microsoft word
-Microsoft Powerpoint
-Blogger
-Slideshare
-Internet explorer
-Survey Monkey
-York college intranet/Black Board
3. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
These are some examples of hardware I have used to
produce my music magazine
-Computer
-DSLR camera
-Memory stick
-Memory card
-Memory card reader
-Sound recording device
4. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
This is where I used software in the creation of the magazine
Research
-Internet Explorer -Blogger -SuveyMokey
Planning
-Internet Explorer -Microsoft Word -Microsoft PowerPoint
Production
-Internet Explorer (DaFont) -Adobe Photoshop -QR code generator
Evaluation
-Internet Explorer -Blogger -Microsoft PowerPoint
5. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Adobe Photoshop-
Although there were alternative ways of producing the
actual magazine Photoshop is one of the most professional
and high quality computer programs available. With
Photoshop I was able to manipulate almost every aspect of
the magazine including; image size, contrast levels, colours,
blemishes, separation of background images etc. plus text
size, font, layout, colour and style. Although I had prior
knowledge with using Photoshop I have acquired and
developed many new skills while producing my music
magazine such as inserting new fonts that I downloaded
from DaFont and how to place the models head above the
title.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Internet Explorer
with out the use of Internet Explorer preforming the research and
development task would have been exceedingly difficult, using
Internet Explorer I was able to research a large index of magazines
and their publishers, for example I was able to find the readership of
magazines such a 'Kerrang!' and 'Q'. The information found through
search engines such a Google and Bing allowed me to find information
which helped massively with the completion of my research however
care had to be taken with the use of Internet Explorer due to some
unreliable and inaccurate web pages that displayed false information .
Internet Explorer also gave me access to the use of Blogger which was
essential for the uploading of my work.
The information found using Internet Explorer may not be available
elsewhere and also provided me with tools such as Survey Monkey
which allowed me to carry out my field research first hand quickly and
with ease in comparison to alternative methods.
7. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Blogger
Blogger was used to upload and display my research, planning, final product and the
evaluation of the product.
Blogger was not essential to the course however it did provide a time effective method of
sharing and displaying my work, potentially I could have used alternative methods such
as Handwritten work but this would have taken up a large amount of time and what I
consider a wasteful method due to the large use of paper. With the use of word
processors, publishers and presentations I was able to quickly and thoroughly complete
my research, planning and evaluation and easily share it through my Blogger account.
This was also a safer method due to the fact that written work could easily of being
misplaced throughout the course.
Although Blogger had a lot of positive and beneficial factors it had some draw backs for
example Blogger does not support certain file formats meaning that I had to use other
website and programs to convert them to a format that was suitable i.e. Slide share
which allowed me to upload and post any work I completed using presentation software
such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
I had never created a Blogger account or used the software before and through the
course I learnt how to create, post, update and rename posts and also change the
layout/colours.
8. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Slideshare
Slideshare was a very important asset to have through the course, it allowed me
to upload all of the work I had created via presentation software such as
Microsoft PowerPoint to my Blogger account. This is because Blogger doesn't
support all file formats and therefore additional technology had to be used in
order to convert the file to one that was suitable for Blogger.
I had never used Slideshare before and so through the course I was taught how to
create an account and convert the slide shows that I needed to upload. This was
done by simply uploading the file and copying the HTML code in order to display
it through the Blog website.
For me there were very few limitations when using Slideshare it was a simple and
effective method of uploading the necessary files.
9. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
This is where I used hardware in the creation of the magazine
Research
-Computer -Memory stick -Sound recording device
Planning
-Computer -Memory stick
Production
-Computer -Memory stick -DSLR Camera -SD Card
Evaluation
-Computer -Memory stick
10. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Hardware
While producing the music magazine I gained numerous new skills and techniques in the transfer
of data and the use of DSLR Cameras.
Through the course I learnt that I cannot always rely on some areas of technology, my partition o
the hard drive was far too small for all of my coursework especially with 3 other coursework
based courses, therefore I had to use a memory stick and email to transfer and store my work.
This was incredibly difficult considering email has upload limitations and therefore only small files
could be transferred for example word documents, while much larger files such as Photoshop
documents had to be transferred through the use of a memory stick. This did however mean that
I had to provide a memory stick and remember to bring it to every lesson otherwise my work
could not be saved. Another issue with transferring data back and forth via a memory stick was
that occasionally files can be become corrupt thus damaging the work and the memory stick
could be lost of damaged putting my work at further risk.
While in the production stage of my music magazine I used a DSLR Camera to photograph the
necessary images for my magazine, through the use of the DSLR camera I learnt how to set up the
correct lighting and exposure settings and how I needed to change the settings in order to take a
photograph in a certain way.
