Ancient Egypt was a civilization of ancient North Africa, concentrated along
the lower reaches of the Nile River, situated in the place that is now the

The civilization of Ancient Egypt is known for its stupendous
achievements in a
whole range of fields, including art and architecture, engineering,
medicine and statecraft. Its great buildings on the banks of the River
still strike awe into those who see them.
For almost 30 centuries—from its unification around 3100 B.C. to its
conquest by Alexander the Great in 332 B.C.—ancient Egypt was the
preeminent civilization in the Mediterranean world.
For the Egyptians, the king was the pinnacle of Egyptian society and
was the figure upon whom the whole administrative structure of the
state was predicated. He acted as the head of the civil
administration, the supreme warlord, and the chief priest of every god
