2.  A refugee is a person who is forced from their home due to
persecution
 A lot of people are being persecuted due to their race,
religion, and a big part is nationality.
 Race is used in the broadest sense and includes ethnic
groups and social groups of common descent.
 Religion also has a broad meaning, including identification
with a group that tends to share common traditions or beliefs,
as well as the active practice of religion.
 Nationality includes an individual’s citizenship..
 I think people need to understand the definitions of the main
reasons people become refugees.

3.  A person is so afraid of what people are
doing to them they have to run for their life.
 Once someone leaves they never return
because of the fear they faced there.
 The sad part is that refugees have just been
acknowledged in the last 10 to 20 years.
 Before that no one cared that people had
to run for their lives in order to stay alive.

4.  There is a currant number of 15.4 million refugees in
2010.
 There are 3million in Afghanistan
 500,00 -1.7million in Iraq.
 860,000 in Somalia
 476,600 in Dr Congo
 415,700 in Burma
 There are 27.8million displaced people in the world
 4.5-5.3million in Sudan
 3.6-5.2million is Colombia
 1.3-2.8million in Iraq
 1.7million in DR Congo
 1.5million in Somalia

5.  Refugees flee to the nearest safest border.
 The largest number of refugees come from
India, Palestine, China and Japan
 The biggest area is the Middle East
 The country with the most cruelest
government is the country with the most
refugees

6.  Up to 35-40% of refugees are torture victims.
 Refugees are tortured to sign documents.
 When a refugee is tortured they are not only physically hurt
but also psychologically.
 Australia is the main refuge for refugees.
 4,000 refugees come to Australia each year
 Once refugees have found refuge they usually become
slaves.
 Most of refugee children are malnutrition.

7.  Liberia is protecting their refugees from
sexual abuse.
 Even though they are protected women
have to engage in sex in order to get food,
shelter and clothing.
 People in Thailand are being sent to sea
with nothing by the troops. The majority of
the people are Muslim refugees.

8.  Not to long ago there were 100 refugees
in Ithaca from Burma.
 Most of those who came served in
refugee camps in Thailand.
 A large amount of students enrolled in
Ithaca College are refugees

9.  The Refugee Therapy Centre(RTC) is
helping many refugees heal from the
things they endure.
 The centre has been around since 1999
and is helping million of people each
year.
 Angelina Jolie is helping many refugees
find homes and a safe living
environment.

10.  A band by the name Rise Against has for
the last 18 years been involved in the rights
to humans (mainly refugees).
 They just had a song for refugee rights.
 They actually care about the world they
have to live in and have the chance to
make it better.
 People don’t realize the number of refugees
that have to run for their lives every year.
