Market research results
1. Market Research Survey Results
The purpose of this market research is to gather information about music genres and
audiences in order to determine the best style for a new music magazine. I gathered my
information by creating a questionnaire on survey monkey and emailing it to a number of
people. It was all part of my primary research.

within the primary age range for music fans as previous studies have shown.

would be interested as everyone I asked listens to music every day.

When I asked ‘How do you listen to music?’ users were able to give multiple answers in
order to get an idea on all of the ways people listen to music. In total I received 30 answers.
11 of those were for IPod/MP3, with 6 for online 4 each for CD/stereo and speakers and 3
for radio. My most shocking result was that 2 people listen to music using LP players
meaning some people still prefer older music and older music technology. I also had one
person select other, they then commented saying on my phone.

4. I asked if people read music magazines and 9 of the 13 people that I asked said no meaning
if I were to create a music magazine 69.23% of people either won’t read it or don’t have a
magazine that caters to their music taste. Then 2 people said they do read music magazines
and 2 people only read them sometimes.

people selecting none. Wire, Kerrang! Wire and billboard all had one vote each. I also found
that 4 people skipped the question all together.

stream app's (e.g. 8track)
When I asked ‘How do you buy your music?’ I received 28 responses with the most popular
being online – legal downloads with 8 answers and the least being illegal downloads with 4
answers. 6 of the 13 people I asked bought CD’s in store whereas 5 people order CD’s online
and 5 people said that they stream music on apps like 8track.
How often do you go to live concerts?
never
Very raraly
1-5 times per year
6-10 times per year
more than 10 times per year
By Georgia McLaughlin
6. The final question I asked was ‘How often do you go live concerts?’. The most popular
answer was 1-5 times per year as it received 7 votes. One person said that they go to more
than 10 concerts per year and another said 6-10 times per year. The remainder of people
said they go to concerts very rarely with no one answering that they never go to concerts.
So it may be a good idea to include a section about live concerts in my magazine as
everyone that took part in the survey has been to a concert.
In conclusion I have found that I am best to aim my magazine at both male and females
aged between 16-30 but still making it mature enough for people aged 31-45 to enjoy
reading. I have also decided that it should specify on eitherpop, rock or indie/alternative.
