The document discusses the filmmaking decisions behind the one-word titled action film "Unlocked". It describes how the group chose to focus on the action genre due to their knowledge in it. Research on successful action films like James Bond showed that an enticing chase/fight scene in the first two minutes was important. The film also uses similar establishing shots and music choices to set the scene and pace of the action from the start in order to attract viewers.

Media evaluation question 1
1.
2. Our film is titled Unlocked, the use of a
one word title came about after a lot of
brainstorming and research. We
discovered that the use of a one word
title left the consumer wanting to know
more and may attract them to watch
the film. Other successful films that used
one word statements are
Arachnophobia, Twilight and
Transformers.
3.
4. We decided to choose the genre of action
because as a group we believed we had
the most knowledge of this genre and we
could make the most successful movie.
During our research of action films and in
particular the deconstructions we focused
on the James Bond franchise because it is
arguably the most successful action
franchise in history. We also focused on
such films as Top Gun and Rambo.
5.
6. From deconstructing the first two minutes
of these films we realised they all shared
a common factor, this was a chase/fight
scene at the start to entice the viewer.
Therefore we understood that this would
have to be a key element during our
final AS film and we also saw it as a
chance to use Match on Action.
7. Two other action films we viewed were
Inception and The Bourne Supremacy.
These films had similar establishing shots
where they almost ‘tease’ the viewer
and do not show the whole character at
once. They both pan up the body,
therefore we did the same, the boy
being chased was not originally shown,
the camera followed his feet and then
panned up to reveal him.
8. A lot of action films we researched used
up-beat music in they’re chase scene
such as Golden Eye, however, few of
them used fast paces up-beat music in
the first two minutes therefore we
decided to challenge this and use a up-
beat song from Freeplaymusic.com from
the off, this piece does not have much
time to build up and represents the on
screen action well.
9. In conclusion we believed Unlocked?
Challenged aspects such as the music
as we decided to not follow the trend of
action movies such as James Bond.
However we did use common
conventions such as a fast paced
chase/fight scene and an establishing
shot that slowly pans to reveal the main
character.
