As a childI alwaysaspiredtobecominganactor. I have alwayshada great love forfilmsandat a youngage
couldname all the JamesBond movies,inorder,andnarrate the yeartheycame out.I also hadmy own
YouTube channel calledGeorge Does, throughwhichIundertookchallengesanddiscussedfilmsIhadseen.
At the age of fifteenIwasaffordedthe opportunitytoundertake some workexperience atMinsterFM,
York’slocal radio station basedinOsbaldwick.Workinginthe studiowithall the professional equipment
interestedme immensely.Ilearnedlotsof new skillsinashortspace of time andevenpresentedanews
bulletin.Idecidedatthatmomentthat I wouldbe more comfortable behindthe cameraasopposedtoin
frontof itand that I wantedto followacareerin mediaproduction.
FollowingmyGCSE’sIappliedtoYork College tostudyLevel 2Creative Mediaandwasfortunate togain a
place on the course.I have neverbeenparticularly academic, butIthoroughlyenjoyedevery practice and
theory lessonandexperience,fromlearninghow touse Photoshopandmakingfilmposters,tofilmingand
editingshortvideos.My Final MediaProjectatthe endof the course was a short horrorfilmcalled“Kill”
whichI wrote,scripted,cast,filmedandedited. Iwas awardeda distinctionforLevel2. Thiswas the first
time I hadachievedsucha successand itwhetmy appetite tosignupfor Level 3 Creative Media.
I have nowcompletedthe firstyearof Level 3for whichI gaineda Merit; I was disappointedatthe time
howeverInowunderstandthatthiswasthe highestmarkachievableasouryear groupwere unable to
complete the FMPdue to Covid-19and itsrestrictions.
Outside collegemyhobbiesare alsorelatedtomystudiesandlove of mediaproduction. Ienjoymaking
alternative filmpostersandthe skillsIhave beenlearningthroughcollegehave givenme the confidence to
uploadmywork to varioussocial mediaaccountsthatI have created,andto understandandaccept
critique froma wideraudience of people aroundthe world.Happilythe feedbackItendtogethas been
goodand I currentlyhave 876 followersonmyrelativelynewInstaaccount(mediaenthusiast02).The
postersare,inthe main,remakesof JamesBondfilmsbuttheydive intoothergenres aswell suchas
horror and comedy,andmore recentlyIhave beenundertaking personal commissions forpeople.Ialsouse
Reddit,DeviantArt,andhave createdmyownwebsite usingSquarespace.
I have a YouTube channel towhichI uploadreviews,andalsoexamplesof how touse editingsoftware such
as premierpro,apackage whichI thinkhasvastlyimprovedoverthe pastyear,throughscreenrecording.
On a personal level,throughmyattendance atcollege Ifeel thatIhave developedinmaturityand have a
stongthirstfor knowledge. Iconsidermyselftobe ambitiousandagood communicator,andmy main
attribute tobe determination. Havingstruggledatschool,now whenIamfacedwitha challenge or
somethingIam unsure about, Ialwaysfeel motivated torise tothe test and determinedtogetthe job
done,andto get a 100% percentsuccessrate. I have a dream to overcome anyobstaclesthatface me.
I neverconsidered thatIwouldbe ina positiontobe able toattendUniversitytostudy,andI wouldlove to
be offeredaplace at York St John.Havingattendedthe opendaylastOctoberand experiencedthe facilities
and technologyonofferinthe MediaProductiondepartment, Iamexcitedtocarry on studying asubjectI
love andto pursue a careerin the industry.
