8. ‘ Traditional’ BAP - targets and reporting Aim: We set out to have 75% of the 12,200 hectares of our land designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) in recovering or favourable status . Progress: Working in partnership with Natural England, the Environment Agency and DEFRA we've successfully moved 84% of our SSSIs to target condition. We're now working to ensure 95% of SSSIs are in recovering or favourable status by 2010.

10. Incident management Optimise response to pollution incidents by understanding potential biodiversity impacts and trace up/downstream of incident Area Query Assess impact of operational activity, for example an asset build, on biodiversity using an area based land search Investment planning Prioritise investment based on environmental and biodiversity impacts & benefits Planned work Pro-active biodiversity risk management - understand potential impact of operational activities on biodiversity and identify mitigating actions to protect habitats & species
11. How does the BAP GIS work? Spatial species, habitat and designated site data imported to BAP GIS (Odessey) User inputs activity type and location Risk matrices calculate which species or habitats could be affected by the activity Impact footprint of activity Location of species, habitat or designated site RISK Planned work
16. Incident Management Incident Trace INFORMATION DECISION ACTION Mains overlay SSSI land Affected river reach Incident Trace

18. Benefits to business and biodiversity Planned work Demonstrates compliance with legislation Proactive approach Risk based assessments Integrated into business processes and decisions Optimise operational activities for environment, biodiversity and financial benefits Enhances company reputation
Facts about BD in yorkshire region and how we interact Regulated business, some key regulators in the environmental and biodievrsity arena include Natural England, Environment Agency.
