PROCLAMATION!!! —The month of March has been declared National Middle Level Education
Month by the Lindbergh Schools Board of Education.

EFG Card Campaign – Attention Parents and Students: We need your help. The last day to turn in your
money for the EFG Card Program is Monday, March 4. The card sells for $10 and entitles the buyer to 15
Buy One Get One Free offers from local restaurants and businesses in our area. The Education Funding
Group Card Program provides funding for educational projects and activities which are not within the
budget of the district. The proceeds from the campaign will be used for all of the students at our school and will go to-
wards such things as teacher grants, educational activities and school enhancements. Because of the school cancella-
tions earlier this week we need your help. Please help us by selling as many cards as you can over the weekend and
returning your money and envelopes on Monday, March 4. Thanks for your support!

Read, Right, and Run Participants should make sure their journals are complete by 3/22. Race Day is 4/6
and details will be shared once they are received. Any questions, contact Ms. Onder.

NAEP – Thirty-one 8th grade students at Sperreng Middle School were randomly selected to participate in a NAEP
(National Assessment of Educational Progress) assessment. NAEP is also referred to as the Nation’s Report Card.
They will be part of a pilot assessment on computer-based technology and engineering literacy. The randomly selected
have already been notified by mailed letter. The assessment took place last week.

Congratulations, Molly! - The St. Louis Synergy Synchronized Skating Program, which includes skaters from all over the
St. Louis Metropolitan area and Metro East, recently sent five teams to Midwestern Sectionals. The teams returned with
four medals and three teams qualifying to compete at Nationals—that’s a first for Missouri. And a Sperreng Middle
School student, Molly Dirksen, helped qualify the Juvenile Team for Nationals. Way to go, Molly!

Congratulations, Amanda! - Amanda Aiken was recently honored as the Rotary Club Student of the Month for the
month of February. Amanda was treated to a lunch off campus with Dr. Eggers, Dr. Simpson and the Rotary Club Presi-
           dent, Don Androlewicz.

Congratulations Lindbergh Families! The Lindbergh African Library Project has exceeded its goal of
collecting 2000 books! Now we are on to the next phase in the project: packing books for shipment.
Flyer Time groups are sorting books now for the K-4 and the 4-8 level libraries. Our library donations
have been awarded to two schools in Swaziland, Africa: K-4 will go to St. Lorreta’s Primary School in
Siphofaneni, Swaziland and our 4-8 library will go to Mpakeni High School in rural Hluthi, Swaziland.
Each school is excited to be chosen and to be receiving books from us. During the last school week in March before break, Sper-
reng students will have an opportunity to participate in fund-raisers to raise money for shipping. More details on individual events
will come soon. Individual monetary family donations can also be made through Sperreng PTO. If we can raise enough funds, we
can use the additional books to make another school library applicant’s dream come true. So, books are still being collected along
with shipping donations. Thanks in advance for your generosity.
Sperreng Environmental Club turning used shoes into water! Donate your new or gently worn
shoes by tying or rubber-banding them together and dropping them off in the specially decorated shoe
collection box located in the front commons of Sperreng Middle School. We will be collecting shoes
until April 1st. Any style of shoe is needed – from high heels to tennis shoes to flip flops. For more in-
formation about the shoeman water project and how it works, go to www.shoemanwater.org

Intramurals – Bowling and Kickball intramurals will begin the week of March 4. Forms are due
Friday, March 1 to Mrs. Miles or Mrs. Perley. Forms can be found online at the intramural website.

A winter tale—The following email was sent by one of our staff members about the professionalism of our
head custodian, Dottie Morgan. Congratulations and thank you, Dottie for all that you do.
“Last night because of the questionable weather, Tammy and I stayed late making sure all the jobs were
done that we had received. At about 6:30 we started shutting everything down and wrapped it up for the
night. When we walked out it was dark in the parking lot. As we walked towards our cars the first thing I
noticed was salt was spread on the walkway. When I looked up, the whole parking lot and every hard sur-
face at Sperreng was sparkling like glitter had been spread everywhere. It was very beautiful. The rock salt was spar-
kling from the streetlights and the car headlights as they drove by on the road. I thought to myself WOW, I wonder what
company the district hired to do this. I thought, what a professional job. I got in my car and got ready to go. As I turned
on my lights and started towards the exit I couldn’t believe what I saw. There on the sidewalk was Dottie. She was push-
ing a walk behind salt spreader. She had covered that whole parking lot manually and she did a perfect job. Because
school was called no one got to see this the next morning. I just wanted everyone to know what a perfect job she did get-
ting the school ready to receive children the next day. It’s dedicated employees like her that make working for this dis-
trict a pleasure.”

Spirit Festival—This year’s Spirit Festival is Saturday, May 18. The theme is ―Big Top Spirit.‖ Lindbergh School Dis-
trict-sponsored and District-affiliated organizations are invited to become involved in the Festival. Applications were
emailed to all previous participates in the Lindbergh Spirit Festival and current Parent Group Leaders for each school.
Those attachments are included here in this enote for anyone who wants to participate.

8th Grade T-Shirt Contest – 8th Graders were given a form this week to enter the t-shirt design for the 8th Grade
Celebration. Designs should be turned into the Principal’s Office by Monday, March 4.

8th Grade Students – 8th Grade Students should be reminded that in order to be eligible to attend the recognition
and celebration event that is held at the end of the school year, 8th graders will need to have paid all fines and not be
required to attend summer school for academic or attendance reasons.

Bus Notes – In order to make riding the bus with a friend a simple process, we have created some new half-
sheet bus notes. These bus notes are in the Guidance Office for students and parents to take home and use
when needed. Bus notes can also be found in the Virtual Backpack on Sperreng’s website. Please contact Ms.
Dora McMichael, receptionist, for any further questions.

ABC Box-Safeline – Attention, parents, if your students express any concerns regarding their safety and security, please
advise them to see a principal or counselor. Or use our Safeline (729-2400x2780) or our Anonymous Box of concerns
(ABC box). The ABC box can be found in the nurse’s office. Please drop a note in the box and we will read them daily.

Chartwells Promotions—Chartwells is holding a ―March Madness‖ event which will tip off
some big, bold flavors of sauces for their Chicken Tenders. Every Tuesday over the next 3
weeks, the cafeteria will feature a new dipping sauce more exciting than a run and gun offense!
Next Tuesday, they’ll start with the Alley Oop Mojo BBQ sauce. Students should make a fast
break to the cafeteria on Tuesday.

Chili Supper—LHS Interact is hosting a Chili Supper on March 1 from 4:00-8:00 p.m to
benefit their pre-school and elementary scholarships, water filter, and stove projects in Gua-
temala. Vegetarian and meat-filled chili will be featured to satisfy the hungry tummies of all
in our community. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and children under
5 eat free. This event will be held at LHS.

Lost and Found—Our Lost and Found section has many coats, hoodies and lunch bags. If students have
lost something, they need to check with Guidance first and then on the racks in the cafeteria.

St. Baldricks Event—the second annual St. Baldricks event will be held at the high school on March 8 at 8:00 p.m.
following the Project Basketball Game. St. Baldricks Foundation raises money for childhood cancer research and the
shaving of hair brings awareness. All shaves should check out the website at http://www.stbaldricks.org to get in-
volved.

Faculty Basketball Game—The Lindbergh High School Faculty will play the Middle School Faculty in a
basketball game on March 8 at Lindbergh High School. See the attached flyer for more information.

The Education Funding Group Card Program provides funding for educational projects and activities which are not within the budget of the district. The proceeds from the campaign will be used for all of the students at our school and will go to- wards such things as teacher grants, educational activities and school enhancements. NAEP – Thirty-one 8th grade students at Sperreng Middle School were randomly selected to participate in a NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) assessment. The randomly selected have already been notified by mailed letter. The assessment took place last week. Congratulations, Molly! - The St. Louis Synergy Synchronized Skating Program, which includes skaters from all over the St. Louis Metropolitan area and Metro East, recently sent five teams to Midwestern Sectionals. The teams returned with four medals and three teams qualifying to compete at Nationals—that’s a first for Missouri. And a Sperreng Middle School student, Molly Dirksen, helped qualify the Juvenile Team for Nationals. Way to go, Molly! Congratulations, Amanda! - Amanda Aiken was recently honored as the Rotary Club Student of the Month for the month of February. Amanda was treated to a lunch off campus with Dr. Eggers, Dr. Simpson and the Rotary Club Presi- dent, Don Androlewicz. Congratulations Lindbergh Families! The Lindbergh African Library Project has exceeded its goal of collecting 2000 books! Now we are on to the next phase in the project: packing books for shipment. Flyer Time groups are sorting books now for the K-4 and the 4-8 level libraries. Our library donations have been awarded to two schools in Swaziland, Africa: K-4 will go to St. Lorreta’s Primary School in Siphofaneni, Swaziland and our 4-8 library will go to Mpakeni High School in rural Hluthi, Swaziland. Each school is excited to be chosen and to be receiving books from us. During the last school week in March before break, Sper- reng students will have an opportunity to participate in fund-raisers to raise money for shipping. More details on individual events will come soon. Individual monetary family donations can also be made through Sperreng PTO. If we can raise enough funds, we can use the additional books to make another school library applicant’s dream come true. So, books are still being collected along with shipping donations. Thanks in advance for your generosity.

A winter tale—The following email was sent by one of our staff members about the professionalism of our head custodian, Dottie Morgan. Congratulations and thank you, Dottie for all that you do. “Last night because of the questionable weather, Tammy and I stayed late making sure all the jobs were done that we had received. At about 6:30 we started shutting everything down and wrapped it up for the night. When we walked out it was dark in the parking lot. As we walked towards our cars the first thing I noticed was salt was spread on the walkway. When I looked up, the whole parking lot and every hard sur- face at Sperreng was sparkling like glitter had been spread everywhere. It was very beautiful. The rock salt was spar- kling from the streetlights and the car headlights as they drove by on the road. I thought to myself WOW, I wonder what company the district hired to do this. I thought, what a professional job. I got in my car and got ready to go. As I turned on my lights and started towards the exit I couldn’t believe what I saw. There on the sidewalk was Dottie. She was push- ing a walk behind salt spreader. She had covered that whole parking lot manually and she did a perfect job. Because school was called no one got to see this the next morning. I just wanted everyone to know what a perfect job she did get- ting the school ready to receive children the next day. It’s dedicated employees like her that make working for this dis- trict a pleasure.” Spirit Festival—This year’s Spirit Festival is Saturday, May 18. The theme is ―Big Top Spirit.‖ Lindbergh School Dis- trict-sponsored and District-affiliated organizations are invited to become involved in the Festival. Applications were emailed to all previous participates in the Lindbergh Spirit Festival and current Parent Group Leaders for each school. Those attachments are included here in this enote for anyone who wants to participate. 8th Grade T-Shirt Contest – 8th Graders were given a form this week to enter the t-shirt design for the 8th Grade Celebration. Designs should be turned into the Principal’s Office by Monday, March 4. 8th Grade Students – 8th Grade Students should be reminded that in order to be eligible to attend the recognition and celebration event that is held at the end of the school year, 8th graders will need to have paid all fines and not be required to attend summer school for academic or attendance reasons. Bus Notes – In order to make riding the bus with a friend a simple process, we have created some new half- sheet bus notes. These bus notes are in the Guidance Office for students and parents to take home and use when needed. Bus notes can also be found in the Virtual Backpack on Sperreng’s website. Please contact Ms. Dora McMichael, receptionist, for any further questions. ABC Box-Safeline – Attention, parents, if your students express any concerns regarding their safety and security, please advise them to see a principal or counselor. Or use our Safeline (729-2400x2780) or our Anonymous Box of concerns (ABC box). The ABC box can be found in the nurse’s office. Please drop a note in the box and we will read them daily.
