Athens is the capital city of Greece and is widely considered the cradle of Western civilization as it was home to important centers of learning and philosophy like Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum. The most famous landmark in Athens is the Parthenon, an ancient temple located on the Acropolis. Other important sites on the Acropolis include the Erechtheion temple dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon and the ancient theatre of Herodes Atticus.
