1. Extreme long shot of Los Angeles. This shot with its illuminated landscape connotes mystery within the city. There is then a quick cut to this close up shot of a police man holding a gun, connote danger and violence. During this shot there is narration ‘ Los Angeles, the gang capital of the world.’ by Ross Kemp. This changes into digetic noise from the police man, connoting an example of how the police are there to control these gangs.

2. This shot to the left is a worms eye view of a helicopter, connoting the necessity and importance of the police, as it is such a large problem in Los Angeles. The shot on the right is a birds eye view, from the helicopter connoting that the problem is throughout the whole of LA. TJ said that there might be a possibility we could get footage similar to this, however, we must remember that if we do it must represent a positive representation.

3. There is then a montage of these shots, all of which are shown with a handheld camera. This connotes that this is a real problem and not something that has been scripted and made up. It is shots like these that we will also be getting as we work behind the police and follow what there doing. The lighting of all these shots are dark and have been recorded during the night time. There has been made a great emphasis on what the majority of these shots is trying to show through the use of lighting.

4. Both these shots although are hard to make out, show two gangs fighting. This connote that problem that the police have to deal with. There is to begin with a wide shot showing both gangs beginning the fight. This is then cut to a closer shot of a gang member being group targeted by the other gang. This is possibly something that we should consider, as the idea we are currently following is the idea of having a narrative, at the beginning we will therefore possibly have some shots showing some negative outcomes of Leicester, and then how the police are there to enforce it.

5. On this shot the camera ped’s up as the man talks about how his gun is vital for his protection. The camera uses this movement possibly to show his bear chest unprotected fully signifying the importance of the gun. The camera movement also connotes that this is a real human being. It is to emphasis that the situation the man is in, is his reality. This could be particularly hard for the audience to grasp and believe. The lighting here is Low Key lighting. This connotes that what the gangs do is against the law and under the cover of night time.

7. [Length of shots] 5 seconds There are a range of shots, from longer ones like the opening shot, to much shorter ones. However, this compared to an action film, where the shots rarely last longer than a second this is fairly long. However, I must take into consideration that I will be have a strict time limit, and will therefore struggle to fit all the footage in unless the takes are relatively short. 2 seconds 1 second F3 seconds

8. The clip then goes into a title sequence for Ross Kemp on Gangs. This is very effective in the documentary and introduces it well. However, I will not be producing a title sequence as my brief is predominantly under the short film brief and do not have time to show all the necessary footage along with an opening sequence.

9. Ross Kemp is the centre of the poster, connoting his importance in the documentary. Ross Kemps facial expression connotes that he has a challenge ahead of him. The contrast between the black and white and the orange make the word Gangs stand out, again this is a way to emphasise its importance in the documentary. However, contrasting this, he also shows an unthreatened attitude as he stands with his hands in his pockets. The background to the poster is of a street, this is most likely due to the fact that gangs are stereotypically known to hang around on the streets. The black and white background could have a link to the fact that the majority of the documentary is filmed during the night.
