Question 1
How old are you?
Under 15
years old
16-24 years
old
25-32 years
old
33-40 years
old
41+ years old
This chart informs me the
majority of the 5 people who
filled out my questionnaire
were in the 16-24 years old
category. As this is an age
related question, there is not
much to infer.
Question 2
What is your gender?
Male
Female
Other
This pie chart tells me that the
majority of the people who
answered my questionnaire
were male; highlighting that the
answers to questions will be
male dominated, which can infer
that my magazine is influenced
by male opinion.
Question 3
According to the Socio-Economic table
of needs, where would you place
yourself? A - High
Management
B - Middle
Management
C1 - Office
Supervisors
C2 - Skilled
Manual Labour
Workers
D - Semi Skilled
E - Unemployed
This chart notifies me to the
idea that there is no clear
majority from those who
answered my questionnaires.
Using this information, I am
able to suggest that my
magazine has to an affordable
price for those unemployed
however be expensive enough
for those of high management
to purchase, so that they feel
the magazine is worth their
money and they don’t feel
‘poor’ by purchasing the
magazine. An ideal and
respected price would be £3.
Question 4
What do you believe is the most
important features on a hip hop
magazine front cover?
Masthead
Main Image
Main Headline
Sub Titles
Barcode/Issue
Number/Date/
Price
This question advises me that the main
image is the most important
convention of a hip hop’s magazine
front cover; I plan to make my front
cover very professional, original and
unique as this what the consumer eyes
sees first, therefore it needs to be
intriguing to the eye, meaning the
consumer is more likely to purchase
the magazine. Additionally, due to this
being a hip hop magazine, I plan to
dress the front cover star in inspired
Kanye West clothing such as clothing
he has been pictured wearing as it
suggests that the magazine is up-to
date with the current fashion trends, a
very important factor in the hip hop
community.
Question 5
What colour scheme do you
believe looks best on a hip hop
magazine?
Red, black
and white
Orange, black
and white
Silver, black
and white
Red, gold and
white
Red, silver
and white
This chart updates me that the
favoured colour scheme of a hip hop
magazine is an orange, black and
white colour scheme. Personally, I
believe that this is the most appealing
colour scheme, and additionally, my
magazine of inspiration’s front cover
follows this same colour scheme. The
use of following the same colour
scheme of a specifically hip hop
magazine allows for success as these
colours are therefore more
recognizable and consumers are more
likely to understand what type of
genres of music will be discussed in
the magazine.
Question 6
Which hip hop stars interest you?
Drake
Kanye West
PartyNextDoor
Tyler the
Creator
Chance the
Rapper
This chart educates me on the fact
that Kanye West, Drake, and Tyler the
creator are all equally of interest to
those who answered my question.
This informs me that my magazine’s
front cover, contents page, and DPS
star must be wearing some of these
artists clothing in which they endorse
ands wear, for example, Drake’s
clothing brand: OVO. I believe this
technique of the front cover,
contents page, and DPS star wearing
the more preferred artists clothing or
similar clothing to what the artists
wear on a daily basic is key as it
highlights the idea that the magazine
is modern and understand the hip
hop community in terms of fashion
and trends.
Question 7
What is the most amount of
money you would pay for a Hip
Hop magazine?
Less than 99p
£1 to £1.99
£2 to £2.99
£3 to £3.99
£4 to £4.99
More than £5
As previously discussed earlier in the
PowerPoint, there is no distinct category
which those who answered my
questionnaire fit into in the Socio-
Economic Table of Needs, therefore I am
unable to devise a suitable price for my
magazine. Like the Socio-Economic Table
of Needs, the graph indicates to me that
there is no majority decision over how
much money those questioned would
pay for a hip hop magazine; those
questioned are willing to pay anywhere
from £1 all the up to £5 or more.
Therefore, I am unable to make a
decision at this time for the price of my
magazine however I will more than likely
price the magazine at £3 as this price is
affordable and also promotes the idea
that it is a ‘luxury and exclusive’
magazine.
Question 8
From this list of names, which is
your favourite?
Pablo
Ghost
Sweet
The graph educates me on the fact that
the most favoured name from the
questionnaires results is ‘Pablo’. I
believe that using the name ‘Pablo’ as
the masthead for my magazine is a
beneficial convention as the word
relates to hip hop star Kanye West’s
most recent album name “The Life of
Pablo”, in which, Kanye refers to Pablo
as a supreme being, similar to a God,
however it is more than likely he is
talking about himself due to his
obnoxious and arrogant personality the
artist sometimes reveals. This
highlights that the magazine is superior
to other hip hop magazines of similarity
and therefore it is more appealing to
consumers.
Question 9
Would you purchase a monthly
subscription to a hip hop
magazine?
Yes
No
Depends on
the cost
This question instructs me
that the majority of those
questioned are willing to
purchase a monthly
subscription to a hip hop
magazine. This is important as
if I plan to distribute my
magazine monthly, and
therefore I need to know that
potential consumers would be
willing to subscribe and buy
the magazine monthly.
Question 10
What do you believe is the
best way to advertise a hip
hop magazine?
Social Media
TV Adverts
Leaflets
Billboards
Official
website
Posters
This chart notifies me that the most effective
way to advertise a hip hop magazine is through
primary social media as well as through
posters. I believe that it is important to
advertise any magazine, whether it be genre
specific or not, through social media such as
Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and even
Snapchat as these sites are being used by
millions of people on a daily basis, meaning
that people are more likely to follow the
account and potentially start to read and
purchase the magazines issues. Additionally, as
hip hop appeals mainly to the younger
generation, social media platforms are vital for
a magazines success as the majority of children
aged 10 or above are likely to have at least 1
form of social media account mentioned above,
highlighting the idea that the magazine is more
likely to be recognized and therefore expand in
popularity.
From this question, I am
able to identify that the
majority of answers come
from the 16-24 year old
category. Additionally, no
one out of the 10 people
who answered my Survey
Monkey were aged either
under 15 or 33 to 40 years
old. As this is an age
specific question, there is
not much information to
comment on, and infer
about.
From this question, I am able to
understand that the majority of
answers are from men. This is able
to infer to me that me that the
decisions I make for my magazine
will be mainly male-based
decisions, which is beneficial as
from my own research, I
understand that there are more
males who listen to hip hop
compared to females.
Question 3 informs me
that the majority of
answers are from the ‘D –
Semi Skilled’ category in
the Socio-Economic table
of needs. This suggests
that the magazines price
would need to be fairly
cheap as this class of
people are likely to not
pay a lot of money for a
magazine. I believe a
suitable, and affordable
price would be £3 as this
is a set price in which
those who fit into the
employed, semi-skilled ‘D’
category are able to
afford.
Question 4 notifies me that the
most important feature of my
magazine will have to be the
Main Image. The main image
will have to be flawless and
include all the conventions in
order to be successful. I plan to
capture a main image of myself
in fashionable clothing to
connote that the magazine
follows the current trends, and
is therefore appealing to
consumers. Additionally, the
main image will be a mid-close
up shot of myself looking away
from the camera to suggest the
underlying and somewhat ’juicy’
information embedded in the
magazine; an intriguing invite to
read the articles inside.
This question informs me
that the majority of
individuals who answered
believe that a red, black
and white colour scheme
fits the best on a hip hop
magazine. Even though
this is the most popular
colour scheme, I plan to
use the orange, black and
white colour scheme as I
personally believe that it
looks the cleanest and
also follows a front cover
colour scheme from one
of my magazines of
inspiration – Q magazine.
Question 6 advises me that the most
favoured hip hop artists is Drake.
Therefore, I am able to suggest that
the majority of hip hop consumers are
very interested in Drake. This
highlights the my magazine should
feature Drake related content such as
a review on his most recent album
“Views” as well as the star of all the
images possibly wearing a piece of
OVO - Drake’s fashion and clothing
label.
This question mentions that
the most amount of money an
individual would pay for a hip
hop magazine is £4 to 4.99.
This means that I will have to
charge this price or less in
order to have my magazine
appeal to the widest amount
of individuals and therefore it
has a higher chance of being
purchased. Additionally, the
majority of those who
answered this survey would
pay £3 to £3.99; this indicates
to me that I should price the
magazine in this price range
as it is the majority decision
for the most amount of
money a person would spend
on a hip hop magazine.
From this question, I am able to
understand ‘Ghost’ is the most
preferred masthead name. Even
though ‘Ghost’ is the most popular
name, I plan to use the name ‘Pablo’
as I believe the name relates to the hip
hop community better due to Kanye
West’s most recent album being called
“The Life Of Pablo”, and due to Kanye
West being the cover star on one of
my magazines of inspiration, I plan to
use something related towards him,
and something perfect would be
something related to him on a
personal level such as the reason
behind his most recent album name.
This question implies that the 2
equally dominant and most
favoured types of front cover
promotions are: A free 1 year
Spotify premium subscription
and Drake tickets. This connotes
to me that I will need either one
of this promotion featured in my
magazine. I plan to use one of
these two forms of puff
promotion as it appeals to the
consumer as they believe they
have a shot in winning the prizes
competition and this can lead to
increased sales.
This question notifies me that an
interview is be the most preferred
type of content to be seen in a hip
hop magazine. This connotes to
me that the interview I conduct
must be related entirely to the hip
hop community. For example, I
could conduct an interview with an
individual whom is very interested
and has a lot of knowledge on the
upcoming hip hop talents. This
would be deemed as intriguing,
exciting and also lure the
consumer into to reading the
interview as he or she is desperate
to know the new hip hop talent.
As you can see in the image located below, here is an individual filling
out one of my questionnaires. The results of the questionnaires are
displayed on the pie charts, and the results of the Survey Monkey are
presented as a graph. It is important that I handed out the
questionnaires to different people from those who answered my Survey
Monkey questions as I get am able more feedback and therefore I am
more able to decide what to put into my magazine.

As this is an age related question, there is not much to infer.
  • 3. Question 2 What is your gender? Male Female Other This pie chart tells me that the majority of the people who answered my questionnaire were male; highlighting that the answers to questions will be male dominated, which can infer that my magazine is influenced by male opinion.
  • 4. Question 3 According to the Socio-Economic table of needs, where would you place yourself? A - High Management B - Middle Management C1 - Office Supervisors C2 - Skilled Manual Labour Workers D - Semi Skilled E - Unemployed This chart notifies me to the idea that there is no clear majority from those who answered my questionnaires. Additionally, due to this being a hip hop magazine, I plan to dress the front cover star in inspired Kanye West clothing such as clothing he has been pictured wearing as it suggests that the magazine is up-to date with the current fashion trends, a very important factor in the hip hop community.

Like the Socio-Economic Table of Needs, the graph indicates to me that there is no majority decision over how much money those questioned would pay for a hip hop magazine; those questioned are willing to pay anywhere from £1 all the up to £5 or more. Therefore, I am unable to make a decision at this time for the price of my magazine however I will more than likely price the magazine at £3 as this price is affordable and also promotes the idea that it is a ‘luxury and exclusive’ magazine.
  • 9. Question 8 From this list of names, which is your favourite? Pablo Ghost Sweet The graph educates me on the fact that the most favoured name from the questionnaires results is ‘Pablo’. I believe that using the name ‘Pablo’ as the masthead for my magazine is a beneficial convention as the word relates to hip hop star Kanye West’s most recent album name “The Life of Pablo”, in which, Kanye refers to Pablo as a supreme being, similar to a God, however it is more than likely he is talking about himself due to his obnoxious and arrogant personality the artist sometimes reveals. This highlights that the magazine is superior to other hip hop magazines of similarity and therefore it is more appealing to consumers.
  • 10. Question 9 Would you purchase a monthly subscription to a hip hop magazine? Yes No Depends on the cost This question instructs me that the majority of those questioned are willing to purchase a monthly subscription to a hip hop magazine. This is important as if I plan to distribute my magazine monthly, and therefore I need to know that potential consumers would be willing to subscribe and buy the magazine monthly.
  • 11. Question 10 What do you believe is the best way to advertise a hip hop magazine? Social Media TV Adverts Leaflets Billboards Official website Posters This chart notifies me that the most effective way to advertise a hip hop magazine is through primary social media as well as through posters. I believe that it is important to advertise any magazine, whether it be genre specific or not, through social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and even Snapchat as these sites are being used by millions of people on a daily basis, meaning that people are more likely to follow the account and potentially start to read and purchase the magazines issues. Additionally, as hip hop appeals mainly to the younger generation, social media platforms are vital for a magazines success as the majority of children aged 10 or above are likely to have at least 1 form of social media account mentioned above, highlighting the idea that the magazine is more likely to be recognized and therefore expand in popularity.

Additionally, no one out of the 10 people who answered my Survey Monkey were aged either under 15 or 33 to 40 years old. As this is an age specific question, there is not much information to comment on, and infer about.
  • 13. From this question, I am able to understand that the majority of answers are from men. This is able to infer to me that me that the decisions I make for my magazine will be mainly male-based decisions, which is beneficial as from my own research, I understand that there are more males who listen to hip hop compared to females.
  • 14. Question 3 informs me that the majority of answers are from the ‘D – Semi Skilled’ category in the Socio-Economic table of needs. This suggests that the magazines price would need to be fairly cheap as this class of people are likely to not pay a lot of money for a magazine. I believe a suitable, and affordable price would be £3 as this is a set price in which those who fit into the employed, semi-skilled ‘D’ category are able to afford.
  • 15. Question 4 notifies me that the most important feature of my magazine will have to be the Main Image. The main image will have to be flawless and include all the conventions in order to be successful. I plan to capture a main image of myself in fashionable clothing to connote that the magazine follows the current trends, and is therefore appealing to consumers. Additionally, the main image will be a mid-close up shot of myself looking away from the camera to suggest the underlying and somewhat ’juicy’ information embedded in the magazine; an intriguing invite to read the articles inside.
  • 16. This question informs me that the majority of individuals who answered believe that a red, black and white colour scheme fits the best on a hip hop magazine. Even though this is the most popular colour scheme, I plan to use the orange, black and white colour scheme as I personally believe that it looks the cleanest and also follows a front cover colour scheme from one of my magazines of inspiration – Q magazine.
  • 17. Question 6 advises me that the most favoured hip hop artists is Drake. Therefore, I am able to suggest that the majority of hip hop consumers are very interested in Drake. This highlights the my magazine should feature Drake related content such as a review on his most recent album “Views” as well as the star of all the images possibly wearing a piece of OVO - Drake’s fashion and clothing label.
  • 18. This question mentions that the most amount of money an individual would pay for a hip hop magazine is £4 to 4.99. This means that I will have to charge this price or less in order to have my magazine appeal to the widest amount of individuals and therefore it has a higher chance of being purchased. Additionally, the majority of those who answered this survey would pay £3 to £3.99; this indicates to me that I should price the magazine in this price range as it is the majority decision for the most amount of money a person would spend on a hip hop magazine.
  • 19. From this question, I am able to understand ‘Ghost’ is the most preferred masthead name. Even though ‘Ghost’ is the most popular name, I plan to use the name ‘Pablo’ as I believe the name relates to the hip hop community better due to Kanye West’s most recent album being called “The Life Of Pablo”, and due to Kanye West being the cover star on one of my magazines of inspiration, I plan to use something related towards him, and something perfect would be something related to him on a personal level such as the reason behind his most recent album name.
  • 20. This question implies that the 2 equally dominant and most favoured types of front cover promotions are: A free 1 year Spotify premium subscription and Drake tickets. This connotes to me that I will need either one of this promotion featured in my magazine. I plan to use one of these two forms of puff promotion as it appeals to the consumer as they believe they have a shot in winning the prizes competition and this can lead to increased sales.
  • 21. This question notifies me that an interview is be the most preferred type of content to be seen in a hip hop magazine. This connotes to me that the interview I conduct must be related entirely to the hip hop community. For example, I could conduct an interview with an individual whom is very interested and has a lot of knowledge on the upcoming hip hop talents. This would be deemed as intriguing, exciting and also lure the consumer into to reading the interview as he or she is desperate to know the new hip hop talent.
  • 22. As you can see in the image located below, here is an individual filling out one of my questionnaires. The results of the questionnaires are displayed on the pie charts, and the results of the Survey Monkey are presented as a graph. It is important that I handed out the questionnaires to different people from those who answered my Survey Monkey questions as I get am able more feedback and therefore I am more able to decide what to put into my magazine.
