The Challenge Access, participation, and progress in the general education curriculum for all learners 						--IDEA ’04
Textbooks and Materials		 Students Print –based curriculum is designed for a homogeneous group of students, “The Average Learner” Generally does not provide extensive flexibility for different learner needs A variety of cultural backgrounds and SES status  Significant differences in prior knowledge Diversity of student abilities and disabilities to receive instruction at the same time, in the same place Classrooms Today
How are we changing instruction in response to  high stakes accountability? Using data analysis to determine specific student needs Identifying  and teaching the essentials of the curriculum Modifying delivery to provide access to all students (using visuals,  manipulatives and authentic assessments) Eliminating physical barriers to instruction Planning for and preventing atypical behaviors Collaborate with colleagues to provide instruction at the student’s individual level
