• A passion and knowledge for your topic
• Good equipment
• Good editing
• Good guests
• Preparation
• Have fun!
5. Preparation
• Know what you're going to talk about in advance
• Brief guests and do your research
• Chat about the topics before you hit the record button
• Keep notes and printouts with you
• Don't fill space for the sake of it
• BUT tangents are good if they sound natural
• Remember, you can edit later
6. Speaking tips
• Practice
• Get comfortable with the microphone
• Get comfortable asking questions
• Get comfortable answering questions
• Have facts, figures and research to hand
• Pick people you're comfortable speaking with at first
7. Editing: Keep it tight
• Take out anything you're not happy with
• Tighten: remove ums and ers and waffle
• Keep it sounding natural
• Boost levels (if possible)
• Top and tail
• Keep your pod as short as possible
9. Perfect podding: getting technical
• Microphone
• Editing software
• Decent computer
• Online storage space for MP3s
• Pro recording equipment (studio / digital recorder)
• For calls: ISDN, phone, Skype
• Having guests present sounds best
