3. Our Goal
As an Event Manager,
plan a mind-blowing
opening party and
thus create a buzz
about the event.
4. Why ?
• Because gyms are reliant
on memberships, we
need to make that
center stand out from
competitors.
• As a good event
manager, we need to
host a grand opening
event.
5. Theme of the Event
• Fitness (obviously)
• Invite people through
media. The number of
people invited isn't
important, just have
enough supplies for
those coming as
necessary. Also, be sure
to tell them that it is a
fitness theme and to
dress accordingly.
6. Event Plan
• Pick out some fitness
DVDs or videos that
feature ten or fifteen
minute dance routines
or workouts.
• Set up a jar with the
names of the different
workouts in the jar
and let people take
turns picking out what
workout to do.
7. Food and Beverages
• Healthy (of course)
• During break, offer
some fruit smoothies
and share some
healthy treats like
fresh vegetables and
fruit platters.
8. Staff Participation
• All staff members of the health club for the
event should be invited.
• This gives potential clients a chance to interact
with the front desk staff, personal trainers and
childcare providers.
• Personal trainers should offer free mini sessions
to interested customers.
• If budget allows it, ask a sports or fitness
personality to come in and speak at the event.
9. Advertising
• Contact the local media to let them know about the
grand opening of the gym.
• If a newspaper or TV station is interested, story can
appear prior to the event.
• Pitch an angle to the media about gym. For
instance, if planning to donate a portion of earnings
to charity or are giving service personnel discounts for
life, the media might be interested.
• Besides a news item, advertise the grand opening to
announce event details.
• Advertise through radio, newspapers, online
classifieds and local fliers.
10. Contests
• Contests should also be a part of grand
opening event.
• Prizes can include free personal training
sessions, free trial memberships and free
monthly membership dues for life.
• Smaller prizes should also be offered, such as
T-shirts, towels and sports bottles with
printed logo appearing on them.
