The Author John Steinbeck 1902 – 1968 John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California in 1902. His novel The Pearl, a simple tale of a Mexican-Indian fisherman’s trials and tribulations after he discovers a pearl was published in 1945. He died on December 20, 1968.
