Klaipeda is the third town in Lithuania according to
population. The population of Klaipeda is 203.269
people. Klaipeda is situated near the river Dane,
Kuršiai Lagoon and near the Baltic sea.
What Does The Name Of The City Mean?

 Maybe the name of
  the city means that
  the knights of the
  order, who lived in
  Memelburgh Castle,
  laid tribute under
  the people and were
  called by them
  gluttons of bread.
 A legend tells about two brothers
who were looking for a place to
  settle their tribe. They started
  quarreling. One of them decided
to settle on the coast of the
lagoon, but the other did not like
  the swampy place and went
further on. When he did not come
back the first brother followed his
  footsteps searching for him, but
he found just a terrible footprint
  (Lith. klaiki pėda). Thus the
  settlement was called Klaiki peda
  and later became Klaipeda.
Klaipeda is the
country’s largest
transport
junction. It has
significant
importance not
only for
Lithuania, but
also for the entire
Baltic region.
It is a place where the main sea
and land routes join together.
One of the top priorities of Klaipeda is to become an
open European city, able to co-operate with all cities of
the world in economic, cultural, sport and other fields.
Nowadays Klaipeda is
 ready to use the EU
 means and also
 means of different
 international financial
 organizations.
 Klaipeda offers a lot
 to businessmen and is
 open itself for
 cooperation.
Birzhos Bridge
Birzhos bridge across the river
  Dane connects the right and
left parts of the town. Buildings
of the 19th - beginning of the
  20th centuries show peculiarity
  of urban culture of our
  maritime town.
Barkentine
               Romantic, old
“Meridianas” barkentine
                “Meridianas” has found
                the last haven in the
                centre of the city.
                “Meridianas” is its
                peculiar visiting card.
The Fountain In Danes Street
                   At hot summer
                    middays townsmen
like to have a rest in
                    the public garden,
                    enjoy the view of
                    fountains. The
                    fountain in Danes
                    street impresses us
                    with water enchanting
                    spectacle, where we
                    can see streams which
                    are splashed from 900
                    sprayers.
