  the	
  choice	
  to	
  cultivate	
  some	
  of	
  his	
  or	
  her	
  own	
  produce	
  at	
  home	
  or	
  to	
  purchase	
  it.	
  With	
  
 the	
  negative	
  effects	
  of	
  pesticides	
  used	
  on	
  imported	
  and	
  locally	
  grown	
  non-­‐organic	
  produce,	
  it	
  is	
  a	
  more	
  
 relevant	
  time	
  than	
  any	
  for	
  students	
  to	
  learn	
  how	
  to	
  create	
  their	
  own	
  garden.	
  Conventional	
  means	
  of	
  
 growing	
  are	
  sometimes	
  impractical	
  under	
  certain	
  circumstances.	
  Alternative	
  agricultural	
  methods	
  are	
  
 an	
  emerging	
  field	
  of	
  research,	
  as	
  the	
  demands	
  for	
  quality	
  produce	
  continue	
  to	
  rise	
  and	
  international	
  
 relations	
  change.	
  Research	
  into	
  gardening	
  methods	
  that	
  do	
  not	
  use	
  soil	
  can	
  be	
  both	
  practical	
  and	
  
 affordable	
  to	
  those	
  with	
  limited	
  resources	
  or	
  improper	
  climate	
  for	
  growing	
  produce.	
  This	
  semester-­‐long	
  
 project,	
  which	
  was	
  completed	
  in	
  tandem	
  with	
  the	
  regular	
  course	
  curriculum,	
  examined	
  the	
  method	
  of	
  
 hydroponic	
  growing	
  for	
  tomato	
  and	
  pepper	
  plants.	
  Students	
  will	
  present	
  the	
  results	
  and	
  conclusions	
  of	
  
 their	
  garden	
  project	
  and	
  take	
  questions	
  from	
  the	
  audience.
