2. Alone, with no sorrow to remember and with no love dream; but a king with no crown and no escort One day knocked three times at your door Sola senza il ricordo di un dolore vivevi senza il sogno di un amore ma un re senza corona e senza scorta bussò tre volte un giorno alla tua porta
3. As white as the moon his hat as red as love his mantle You followed him without a reason like a child following a kite Bianco come la luna il suo cappello come l'amore rosso il suo mantello tu lo seguisti senza una ragione come un ragazzo segue un aquilone
4. And the sun was shining and your eyes were beautiful And he kissed your lips and hair The moon was shining and your eyes were tired He put his hands around your hips E c'era il sole e avevi gli occhi belli lui ti baciò le labbra ed i capelli c'era la luna e avevi gli occhi stanchi lui pose le sue mani suoi tuoi fianchi
5. There were kisses and smiles then there were only bluebottles which with their starry eyes saw your skin quivering with the wind and the kisses.
6. They also say that as you were going back one doesn’t know how you slid into the river and he, who didn’t want to believe you were dead, kept knocking at your door for a hundred years Dicono poi che mentre ritornavi nel fiume chissà come scivolavi e lui che non ti volle creder morta bussò cent'anni ancora alla tua porta
7. This is your song, Marinella, who flew up to heaven on a star and, like most beautiful things, lived but one day, like roses. And like most beautiful things lived but one day, like roses.
9. dianabreton@gmail.com www.gabriellla.it 3 L This is how De ’ Andr è explained what inspired him about the very delicate figure of Marinella. Still very young, he said, he learnt about a girl of fifteen who worked as a prostitute and had been found drowned in a watercourse in his own neighbourhood. Much struck, moved by the girl ’ s very young age, by her deeply squalid life and by her tragic death, he wanted to “ reinvent ” her a life; make her figure the subject of a tale … There is no doubt he was successful! The song, which dates back to 1964 keeps moving us! This merciful deed brought him a grat deal of luck. He was the son of a very big industrialist of sound bourgeois roots, who didn ’ t approve of his odd son, a would-be artist, whose songs nobody minded. Fabrizio had almost resigned himself to leave music for business, when Mina, then at the top of her success, accepted to interpret “ Marinella ” . It was a “ hit ” , so clamorous that the young man became the center of discographic interests and was offered very profitable contracts; and his father finally convinced himself to have a son who was a Great Artist!
